Has anyone tried installing WindowsCE on a EPIA board?

that would mean we don't need the emulator wouldn't it? Just run the PPC/WM5 version direct.

There seems to be plenty of CE drivers around for VIA stuff, Touchscreens etc.

All we'd need then is a frontend/media player program for the PPC

will see what I can find out.

It just seems to make sense, as there is a whole bunch of people out there who have the ability to make good front ends (can't .net stuff be run on PPC), and nobody who is able to write GPS apps, at least not on the same level as TomTom.

Couldn't an existing .NET frontend not be ported to work on WinCE?

Can you tell I'm no programmer

yes and no. you do indeed have .net for the ppc, but it's a different control set. so whilst you might get the same syntax, the application can be very different, and is not portable, if not designed in that way from the start.

it was my OBD2 program which made me think of this method.

ECUTalk 1.3.2 is able to run on a PPC or a PC with no mods. IIRC that was written in .NET

Will have to see what CE stuff I can DL to play with
, obviously Im not going out to buy stuff to find out it won't work

Bad news!

Done a bit of reading now, and it seems that although the VIA stuff will run WinCE, it is WinCE for x86 hardware.

Apparently, the TomTom PPC software will ONLY work on PPC's with ARM processors, and will not work on any x86 type hardware so we're stuck with an emulator. Or Navigon NavigatoR2.0

Whats this fixation with RISC processors?

Even my Symbian S60 mobile which runs TomTom has a ****ing ARM in it

Nokia N70 Processor Specs.: 32-bit RISC CPU based on ARM-9 series, 220 Mhz

I still have another idea though, with the price of some of these new GPS programs being well over £150, why not just buy a TomTom One for £149, and create an app which can remote control it and display its screen contents on the PC like TomTom Home software does.

That way we are still fully integrated. We can remove it to use elsewhere temporarily if required, or on foot in a town centre, you'd have a paid license for map updates. And as the TomTom One is doint the work, it shouldn't impact on PC performance at all

And you wouldn't need a GPS sensor so another saving for those with no GPS hardware yet.

From www.solocarputer.com: To emulate a valid comport for Device emulator 2.0, you must use http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...roup_id=129551
and Gpsgate or Xport3.

I find problem with gpsgate and microsoft device emulator. I use one free program com0com; is http://com0com.sourceforge.net/ there are two program com0com that is pair of virtual com port and hub4com.

Combined this two programs com0com and GpsGate the result is perfect. I shared the port GPS with the device emulator, Destinator and PC Navigator without problems.

Latest Xport3 fixed for Microsoft Device Emulator, you don´t need com0com; Tested.

Hi!

I've follow every single step of this tutorial with sucess. I mean that i've download/install the programs, synchronize my Pc with the Virtual PPc, Install TomTom with cards and everyting... BUT !!! My bluetooth GPS isn't recognize by the PPc. I can't go in the option Bluetooth on this one to check the 2 cases, cause it say: There is no bluetooth hardware installed on this device''.

My GPS (Holux M1000) is in my Bluetooth favorite (PC) and I've use it on Microsoft Street and Tips, so it's working (I can't use this program anymore cause my father change his GPS and gives the software to his friend) So in order to be able to see what i've been doing wrong, here's what i've done (that concern the GPS)

-Set the GPS in my Bluetooth favorite (connect on COM6 with a SPP Slave connection)
-In the PPC (Setting/GPS)
GPS Program Port : COM0
GPS Hardware Port : COM6
Baud Rate : 4800
Check : Manage GPS automatically

-PPc Program (File/Configure/peripheral)
Serial port 0 : Do not map
Serial port 1 : COM6
Serial port 2 : Do not map
**Create text console window for port 1 is UNcheck**

The syncronisation (Microsoft ActiveSync) Between the Pc / PPc is done
In the emulator manager, the connexion is done (with 'Cradle')

I'm kind of lost in this.. In fact i've follow the steps one by one and everyting was working since then ^^ But i don't even know what i've done ... So trying to solve this problem is kinda impossible for me I've try many thing, but none of them worked.

If someone is able to help me, i would really appreciate !

Ps: Thanks MP3Car !!!
Ps2: Sorry for my english.. i'm from Qc,Canada
