1) TomTom is outdated >>>
TomTom no longer support the PDA or mobile platform. AFAIK Version 6 is the last one.
2) Its slow >>>
Its slow because its running using an emulator, run a proper PC navigation and you will see the difference.
3) Its patchy >>>
Need an emulator on top, resolution is limited, GPS connection is flakey..etc etc. The whole thing relies on how good the emulator is and its never gonna be 100% right.

After years of updating TomTom to the next level and now having a carPC, it was hardto understand that there was more than TT only.
I installed Sygic Drive. and WOW!
- 3x faster, compared to TomTom
- works perfect with my frontend road runner
- better graphics (it took a couple of minutes to get used to it)
So no problems for me anymore with windows mobile emulator.

I am considering buying Sygic Drive but having read this review:
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/sygicdrive.php
I am reconsidering. I see you have been using the software since May - would you mind telling me your opinion, especially about the routing?
If anyone else can suggest an alternative to TT which I use on a PDA I would appreciate it.
I travel in many places in the world and need as many Country maps as possible available.
TIA

Hi. I'm sitting with the new software - emulator installed and TomTom is very slow.. The emulator works fine.... All PPC software is also working. If I start up Tomtom, it works ok in starting up and then takes forever to open menus ect... which it does after making coffee.... Is there anything I can change to speed this up?... did I do something wrong in the config or installation...?

Bluetooth GPS on PocketPC Emulator
Hi,
Maybe this will help:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/for...-81a112f5dd63/
In the PocketPC Emulator "Serial port 0" = COM1
So if you connect your bluetooth GPS device to e.g. COM6 you must bind "Serial port 0" to COM6 in the PocketPC Emulator. In TomTom you select "Serial Cable on COM1:".
It works fine!

I tend to agree with you. I'm no expert on tomtom, but you make some good points for sure.

problem is, tomtom was never meant for PC. im a pda/cell phone tomtom user and i love that program so much. unfortunately it just isnt suitable for carpc, there are plenty of program to choose from these days, much better, faster, reliable and works straight out of the box. no ****ing around with emulators or patching here and there.
it was alright to install it back then and have a play with it for a month or two. i doubt anyone is using tomtom on their carpc now. even if tomtom release a PC version i doubt it will be as good.

I must say that I agree with you completely, for what it is worth. TomTom and PC definitely don't mix

Nice writing and useful information. Thanks for the sharing! Can I install Tomtom on my N97? Or N97 has its own GPS?

i know this is an old thread but there seams to be some life in it...
i have a tomtom one... before tomtom home would operate it, it downloaded a file for it, im guessing this is a control ocx file... could it be embeded into an application... would anyone know...
i did purchase tomtom for my symbian fone a long time ago, version 5, n used it when i rode my motorbike.,.. was great. i love my tomtom, but am now looking for alternatives that can be hidden easier... my tomtom works in my dash board when i forget to turn it off lol, so i know i can hide it away n get a signal... im trying to source a copy of tomtom navigator for ppc, sofar no luck, i dont wanna pay for a different copy... if it comres to it i will just use some coding to launch tomtom home, load the tomtom up and embed the screen, shouldnt be too hard to get the actual hwnd of the tomtom window.... - i hope :P
