I grounded the RCAs just like in your pic. It definitely cleaned up the sound. I also made another change while I was there. I was feeding the line out with a 3-way dongle I made to each of my amps so it still didn't have the separation it should. I mounted my EQ in the trunk with the line out feeding the EQ and from there to each of the amps; front, rear, sub. It sounds awesome now. Thanks Mitch.

Just a FYI for you guys:
There is a member 'crosslakesales' on ebay that has a ton of the Visteon models.
Just snagged one for $67.50 brand new
So my HD investment so far is $67.50 + $11shipping + $24 mitch's cable which total comes to $102.50
Its amazing how fast technology moves. Just 6 months ago I bought the standard HQCT for $150 shipped. It worked ok, but not good enough to make me happy with my tuner solution.
From what I am reading HD is quite amazing for a free broadcast and I checked and all the stations around me are broadcast in HD so I'm really looking forward to getting this all set up
Until my hardware arrives my skin will just have to wait in limbo

Will do mitch, I was planning on grounding the chassis of the HD tuner to the chassis that the rest of my hardware is grounded to. I agree that a system will sound much cleaner with proper grounds. Thx for the pic of what you grounded.

blk> can you give us a comparison of the HQCT vs. the VisteonHD (and the Visteon in normal FM mode).
Im thinking of getting one of these, but Australia doesnt make use of HD radio. We will be using DAB in 2009 (or so).
Cheers

The visteon model is the same component as the directed unit just rebranded and for all intensive purposes it sounds just like a head unit in terms of its fm reception and production. THAT is what i wanted more than anything. The HQCT was a nice "carputer" radio. This is a radio in itself.

Are you guys hooking your tuners up to your DC>DC power supplies or are you running this directly off one of the cars circuits? The way it is designed looks like it was made to plug into the cig lighter or something which means it will have a voltage stabilizing circuit built in.

it works with the the cig lighter. No need to waste precious wattage on your PSU.

WooHoo! Got the HD Radio working! Come to find out it was an old com port left over in my rr.ini from when I had an XM tuner installed! Duh!
Anyhow, its working perfectly, and was able to get the skin completed for it.
Thanks Mitch for the hard work into the software and cable!

Inspired by JohnWPB DFX HD Skin I re-did my HD radio skin. I never was happy with it.
Much more functional now and more user friendly.
Let me know what you think

I have not gotten my tuner yet so I am not sure road runners "RADIOBAND" command will work with this setup. Just asking because there were a lot of people asking how to change the BAND.
