My apologies for not reading through the thread properly.. i understand that the touchscreen interface will be an overlay yes?
Won't the overlay hinder the touchscreen operation of the headunits' own controls?

So, the cheapest price for the whole solution would be $550 and the highest price would be $700!!!! That is way too damm high for a solution that is not even sunlight readable.
Even with the bluetooth working, it will not be integrated into the PC so you will have to deal with pausing one to hear the other and vice versa.
These damm companies needs to stop ******* around and just make a damm VGA monitor.

No. Have a proper read of the thread.

Wrong, the Alpine unit would work as it always does, Bluetooth use triggers the audio interrupt(common on all alpine HU), muting the music/video/whatever audio output.

This is not a damm HU fool. Read the entire thread. This is only a monitor that has extra features. The computer would use this as you would use any regular VGA monitor; therefore, if the muisc is playing independent of the screen, you would have to mute the sound from the carpc in order to hear/use the damm phone.
Price estimate for the actual solution was 200-300 and for the unit 350-400. Read the thread.

So much hostility.
I never said or assumed it was a HU, just mentioned a normal Alpine HU feature is also available on this screen.
Most people (I assume) that are taking on this solution would already have a working independent stereo system, which the car pc would feed in as an auxilary source... therefore audio interrupt would work as normal.
And if, in your setup, you decided to set the audio so it was controlled 100% by the car pc, it could be still setup so that the audio interrupt trigger works. Many ways to accomplish this.

Cool stuff!
I tapped into the cable between my Vehicle Hub Pro and the 740 and poked around with a scope. It looks to me like the RGB and composite sync are all VGA compliant without conversion. The RGB lines are standard .7V and the csync is 5V. The horizontal freq is 31.5 KHz.
I was also able to drive my OEM WQVGA display directly from the Vehicle Hub Pro's RGB output (I had to drop the csync down to 1V).
The VHP is far from a carputer but works pretty well for iPod and satellite integration.

Wow! This is awesome guys! I had no idea the development for this was already under way.
I already have a TME-740BT that I used previously, and I would like to build a CarPC. I was thinking of using the TME-740BT, but didn't know what was required to make it work. I'm just starting my research, but have thought about it for a few months now.
Now that I've seen this thread and know that I'm not the only one thinking of using the Alpine screen for a CarPC makes me feel good. I'm really excited that you guys have already been working on this.

Development for this? Maybe the touch screen conversion but the display is .7Vp-p RGB and the CSYNC is 5V TTL at 31.5 KHz horizontal. Sound familiar? Only the cable is weird.. But you'll find 3 coax cables for RGB and one for CSYNC. No magic conversion.

I would have to agree and disagree. You cannot hook up the rgb signal out of your pc and get a decent picture. You have to process/scale the image to get a likable image. You will get a picture if you hook it straight up but will it will look like crap.
We are stll working on this damn touchscreen waiting on some parts to complete(we hope)

This is exactly what I've been looking for. I am thinking of buying the new IVA-W505 in preparation of this. You need any testers?
***I just saw in the specs the the IVA-W505 only has a 400x234 resolution so it look slike no-go on this model.

The spec sheet I saw on alpine's site is wrong, it has the same resolution as the 740bt monitor. the specs also say its a 6.5" screen when its a 7"
