Alex,
the task is obvious. Decode the proto (I'm 96% sure now it's NOT regular serial port, otherwise it must have been cracked already), buy a PIC evaluation board, and then write the firmware and windoze/linux/mac drivers. Then test, and then place the order in China. This will require ....ahem, some investment and time.
Will post here once I find out, is this "bus" uni- or bi-directional at least. If the latter, I have no chance: the navi unit I could grab the conversation from, costs beyond my budget.

i think this must be a unidirect think, because the navi told the monitor to go away from navi screen and this can take from 1-20 secounds. so this command will not be analysed by the monitor, i think this will be a command via AiNet and the navi computer is a little bit slow.
this problem exists since the first monitors from alpine with navigation input.
the monitor told the navigation computer only the klick position, not more and not les. if you take a look to the iR LED it flashes everytime you klick on the screen. people told me that this is only a Infrared signal that the monitor transfer in the same protocol like the RemoteControl do, to the navigation computer.
if this is correct, i don't know.

Hi back.
I don't see the IR led blinking since W505r does not have an IR led. Nothing I see on the remote output as well.
I see some millivolts signal down +12v on the Screen Control pin when the screen is touched, regardless of the input - either Nav, Radio or iPod. That must not be correct, unless there is some other signal. You say navi tells the monitor to close the screen? How? Is it connected to the display with MORE than one connector?
Thanks.

Yes, I've read this. AiNet has nothing common with the RGB jack, sorry... It may transfer commands received via GUI of the head unit, but this doesn't relate to navi.
I've found the pin, and I've found the signal which MUST be TTL or CMOS level - but it isn't. Maybe I should activate the screen interface with some command, dunno. Somebody lend me a PMD200 with the dock?! Pleeeze...

Guys, I need your help.
Anyone with a navi unit connected to the RGB socket on the head unit or the monitor?
Could you please make some measurements for me? I don't have (and can't afford) a navi.

Another question.
I've just put together the VGA interface for this screen. Looks..... bad. Due to interlaced sync (15,75kHz horiz, 25Hz vert) the picture is twitching quite a bit, like on an old TV. Cannot make it work on 31,5kHz progressive, I think it's not designed for progressive scan.
Ideas?

i think there must a way, because the blackbird and the new flash naviation system use a progressiv signal in full resolution of the screen.
i think the best way is to check the signal of the blackbird interface to find the correct way.

Lend me a blackbird? Then I could dig out not only the screen params but also the touch signal as well.
The prob is that I'm located in Russia: we could get broke on postage.

That'd be great, waiting eagerly.
I do know now how to make 800x480 progressive, but a regular VGA can't do that. Need a frame buffer for it, and quite a circuit.
The question is. Dear friends, how much would you pay for a VGA/USB interface to Alpine head units, without getting too greedy?

Thats a good question, i think between 50 and 150 euro its a price range thats possible. my personal limit is 100 euro for this interface, but if you have the circle and the rest around, you can make it via china or taiwan for a small price.

Sillybilly, if you can create a vga input and usb usage of the buttons for the IVA-W502 i would pay you 250 euros
If you can get the buttons correctly connected via usb i can write an application that will change the raw codes to a keyboard shortcut of choice.
