Awesome! About time someone's come up with a simple interface solution for the V1! I'm going to go find me the parts to build and see if the VOne app can be integrated with RR

Happy happy day

I didn't join that those groups but is there some hardware that you need to interface with the Valentine 1?

The process to create an ID and then request to join a forum is a pain.

The hardware is a simple serial interface circuit. Look at http://www.kc8unj.com/radar/ and choose Software One. Since it can use serial, then a suitable plugin for Frodo and Road Runner can be made. The program he wrote looks very good, emulating the Valentine's display.

Yes, it's explained on that link posted above (http://www.kc8unj.com/radar/). You can either build a custom V1 to Serial cable or plunk down $39 for a very nicely made TTL2USB box, and another $10 for a V1 to TTL2USB cable.

I'm opting for the home-built serial cable, since flat Cat-3 is very easy to run through the car

The only thing I'm stuck on is one component on the schematic that shows 5.1V value. Does anyone know what that symbol is for? RatShack has all the needed parts and they're easily accessible.

EDIT: Nevermind.. found it... zener diode

I could be wrong..

.. but now that the V1/PC interface issue is basically resolved via the cable, it should be [fairly] easy for a skilled programmer to develop an application that could display warnings as an overlay so you don't have to constantly run the radar detector application as a visible window, no?

Does that make sense?

I'll be hitting the Shack tomorrow.

Now we need to take this a step further by having it connect to the GPS software and make waypoints automatically of speedtraps.

drait, you need a 9 pin female sub connector typically. (not male)

All my serial ports are being used.
When one of you guys make this can you test it out with a serial to USB converter? Remember to post your results

TIA

I know I have dropped the ball on the hardware side, but I have just got my usb connector in the mail (I lost my old one). Anyway, this might work with the above interface, but probably not without some testing. This is my app that has okay skinning support, and show up in a popup window (like msn im notifications). I have the sound support disabled, but I should be able to turn it back on soon.

oops, attachment too big http://www.cs.unm.edu/~dolphin/V1.zip
