I'm interested in getting this program for some GPS tracking via laptop for a road trip. I am wondering how much the views can be configured. Can the program be set for no tilt and keep a fixed north direction? That is how my old GPS was and I don't care for the world to spin as I make a turn. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Does anyone else have a problem resuming from standby with google earth running?
My google earth will come back all garbled and I have to reboot to get my system back.

Hi Blazer88,
GooPs is quite configurable. To keep GooPs from auto-rotating just de-select the "Rotate" button on the main window. To keep from auto-tilting de-select the "Tilt" button. You can then set the view manually in Google Earth to whatever orientation and tilt you desire.

That's the first report I've heard of that problem. Does it do it without GooPs running?

Thanks for the response David. I got my GPS up and running yesterday and drove around with the free version for a while and liked it. I think I'll be upgrading to the pro version for the auto zoom feature which seems quite nice. Another feather I am really interested in is distance and time until the destination. Will Goops give any kind of distances to pre-cached directions or place marks? I can save the directions and routes for my road trip and it would be great to know how much farther until my next destination, etc.

Hey Blazer,

I don't have any plans to add this type of capability to GooPs. Google Earth has that built in, but not too convenient to use while driving.

You might want to look at iguidance. Many folks use that for navigation while running GooPs for the Google Earth tracking.

Does the KML tracking kind of resets itself after x number of points? I recently went on a 400 km journey and only the later part of the journey has been recorded in the KML file.

GooPs will carry up to 28,800 points, after it reaches that number it overwrites the oldest points.
The number of points defaults to 2000. You can set it to 28,800 in the Options dialog.
For long trips you can press the "Save" button on the GooPs main window to create periodic snapshots.

Thanks for the recommendation Dave. I got iGuidance and that covers the functions that I want. iGuidance works great for the typical navi functions, directions, and turn-by-turn directions, but it is certainly nice to have the eye candy of Google Earth. I tried to run Goops and iGuidance at the same time yesterday and only one would work. I use GPSgate to create two virtual ports and I think I have it all figured out. Thanks again for answering my questions.

i am having the hardest time getting the gpsslim 236 to work

i set the baud rate to 38400 and GE put me in the sea of the west coast of africa (default location?)

i changed the computer com port baud rate as well in the device manager and still no luck - the device is paired but it look like the data isn't coming trough

I had this working before but i don't remember what settings i used.....at this point any brainstorming recommendations would be very helpfull

I used to have Goops and Google Earth running flawlessly but recently I have been having issues. Goops is open, GE is open but GE is not tracking the gps. Everything is there but GE just won't autoview. I can sometimes fix this if I set goops to auto start GE and then it will work until I close GE. If I open it again autoview is broken. Then I have to close goops and reload it with autostart GE to get it working again.

I solved this issue btw. I had to switch GE to DirectX instead of OpenGL. It's a little bit slower but no more resume problems.

Absolutely brilliant work David I've been familiarizing myself with the free version for a few days now and i've had no problems, i'm planning on upgrading in a few minutes, really cool stuff. I don't have Internet connectivity in my vehicle, so i've been precacheing and i have a question for anyone GE savvy, is there any way to to determine how much of the 2000mb of disc cache i have used? would the 2000mb be enough to cache say from Los Angeles to Denver? Great forum even though after reading some of this stuff i feel like a single cell organism compared to some of you brainiacks
