New Version 2.4 – 1/2/09 Enhanced NMEA logging, GPS AutoScan

NMEA log recording feature now saves the NMEA log to a file named with the vehicle name, current date and time (this changes the old behavior where the same log file was overwritten each time the "Record" button was pressed).

NMEA Continuous logging feature constantly logs data to a file. The file is named with the vehicle name, current date and time. A new log file is created each day or when GPS updates haven't been received for 10 minutes.

Existing NMEA log files files can now be loaded and played in GooPs/Google Earth.

New GPS AutoScan automatically scans your system's COM ports for your GPS.

GPS connection status is now displayed in the GooPs cursor text in Google Earth.

FTP number of points to be sent is now configurable.

GPSgate client now supports altitude.

GPSgate client now uploads all points after connection is lost.

Very nice. I seem to have memory issues using goops. After 20-30 minutes my system starts freezing until I close goops. I know it's not GE because I can close it and the freezing continues. I used to use this on my laptop and it worked fine. Now I'm using a much more powerfull of with 2 gigs of ram. In fact using the last version it froze so bad that I had to force a reboot and it wiped out all my user profile! My system is very stable otherwise and I hardly ever have to reboot.

I'm having problem connecting to gpsgate.com server for sending my position. Have tried to enter login/pass with different case, but have no success - my position isn't showed up. Versions used: 2.4, 2.3, 2.2 - all "pro". In the same time, franson gpsgate client works fine.

Hello glouck,

Can you get data from the gpsgate server with GooPs? Try adding a vehicle with your gpsgate user name as the name and "gpsgate.com" as the host.

Is the server set to gpsgate.com in the "External Servers" dialog?
Are the "Enable" and "Send my position" boxes checked?

No, in the "External Servers" server name is 'online.gpsgate.com'. Have tried without 'online.' - same results. Both boxes are checked.

Try clearing the track (press the "Clear Track" button on the GooPs main window).

Then go into the Options window and uncheck the "Compress" box in the track section for your local vehicle (near the center of the window).

I uploaded a beta version of GooPs with additional gpsgate.com debugging.

Download the beta, select the "Enable debug logging" box in the lower left part of the Options window, run for a minute with the gpsgate client feature enabled, and send me the file goopsDebug.log.

I have been using the free version of GooPs to view my saved tracks in Google Earth I uploaded to my computer from my Magellan Meridian GPS. I have not tried realtime tracking I am only using previously saved tracks. I used GPSBabel to input Magellan Mapsend tracks and convert to NMEA 0183 Sentences and then saved the file as Me(demo).nme into the directory I run GooPs in. The tracks play OK but I have a few issues with playback. I understand that I may have to live with some issues as is but here is a list.

NOTE - I run in demo mode with compression turned off.

-The cursor and track always begin somewhere in the middle of the whole trip so I have to wait for the cursor and track to complete the 2nd half of the trip to watch the trip from the very begining point (theres no way to jump right to the start of my trip, it would be nice to start the trip from the trips beginig point in the first place).
-There is no speed or heading showing so the classic 3D cursor is always pointing north therefor I am always looking at the cursor movement from the south when tilted no matter what direction the cursor is moving along the track.
-If I try to change the cursor from classic 3D to image and use a gif or jpeg when I play the track there is no cursor or track showing at all, although the google earth imadry moves the same as when using the classic 3D cursor. I notice when I try to use an image, google earth shows no cursor or track in the Temporary Places layer it only shows GooPsServers with no + in front of it. If I switch back to Classic 3D the cursor and track appear again.
-If I add a new Id in Add/Update Vehicle (in demo mode) like as an example test and then name the file saved into the directory I'm running GooPs in test.nme then highlight it on the drop down menu and try to play the file, the cursor jumps to 0W, 0N on GE and dosn't move from there.
-Are there any or what are the parameters for color changes in SpeedTrack.
-What does extrude mean in the Options dialog.

Hello Adru,

Try one of the other demo names like "David.nme". The Me(demo) name will always skip the first couple of hundred points.

The .nme file trick only works with the existing built-in demo names. It won't work with a vehicle that you add.

How are you selecting the image files you are having problems with? Is there a chance the path name is incorrect?

Hi Dave,

Do you have a manual how to track large fleet with GoopsPro?
I want to track above 50 unit vehicle. But just until 20 unit vehicle the system is very heavy.
I am using lastest version now. The system always freeze when i start the Goops
Its just show position when i open the Goops. After that its not update automatically.
It can show update position after i restart the computer. But after Goops opened its not update again.
Please help i need your solution.

Note on tracking:
If you need to track a large fleet of vehicles you don't need to buy GooPs Pro for each vehicle. You can run GooPs Pro on just the system that is doing the tracking. and run GooPs Free or GooPs Plus in the vehicles being tracked.

For my question : How to track the vehicle use Goops Free or Plus but the system has use GoopsPro?
