If there is a momentary push button on the board it will work. You would solder in the leads as you would on a laptop. You'll have to test it though to be certain. Use the same test method as previously mentioned for the laptop power buttons.

Great Module. Mine is working great! What do you suggest for the reverse effect? I find myself using the momentary switch you supplied to put it into sleep. Is there a way to build the box to do the opposite too?

If you're using it with a laptop, you should be able to just set the ACPI / Power Settings to shut down / hibernate / standby the system once you turn the car off and whatever is supplying power to your laptop is turned off. Say after 45seconds after power loss it goes into standby/hibernate mode.
As far as building the reverse mode... I'm sure there is, I just haven't devoted the time to it as I have too many irons in the fire as it is lol. Maybe one of these days

I hooked up your module and the usb function doesnt work - it still shuts down when i turn on the car
just wondering how you wired it because i cut the USB plug and wired it to another extension that goes to my hub - so i dont loose a usb port - im guessing red is + and black is - :P let me know...
im going to have another look at it, but its not workin atm!
anyway i can check if its taking in the power properly etc?

I'm guessing you mean you already have the pc ON then, when you turn on the car? How is your HUB powered in relation to the module and pc?
I've attached a pic showing the usb connection on the board. Basically just positive and negative from the usb cable should be read here. +5vdc on the one side, Ground/Negative on the other. Also, when you plug the usb cable in to a port that is powered on, you should hear the smaller, 5vdc relay 'click'.

Giving power to the module, or plugging the usb into a powered port? When giving power to the module, you'll hear the 12vdc relay click. To test just the usb relay, you don't have to power up the module, just plug the usb cable into a powered port. You should then hear the 5vdc relay click.

W3bMa5t3r - I was curious about this project in your sig in your link so I thought I'd check it out.
Have you thought that this same unit can be used with screens too where there is no auto on ?
( Thats why I started looking at it )

It should turn on any electronic device that uses a momentary pushbutton switch to power it on. So yes, monitors, external hard drives, etc. It's about a 3/8 - 1/2 second "PRESS" (or short really since that's what a switch does).

I have the same lappy going into my van. That daughter card's power-on contacts are shorted by the underside of the power button.
If you pull that card out you can see the same contacts on the reverse by pulling off the insulating tape underneath. There is no clearance there, so I'm going to try doing it with just a few strands of wire.
Have you or anyone been able to do it differently?
I wonder if the main board has a separate 'emergency' power button... I haven't been able to find anything about that...
