That is really cool...can I ask you a electrical question? (I sure wish I was smarter that way!!!)
Can I just solder and wire a turn on switch to my laptop docking station? I'm going to have a constant power connection through a DC - AC inverter.
I can turn off the computer but need something to turn it on because I mounted it in the trunk. Any help you can give me would be great!!

Is there a switch on the docking station? I dont know how easy that will be. You may want to consider something like creating a plug on the laptop like suggested above, then adding a connection on the dock.
Basically that way you can mount the dock in the car and hook it up all nice, then when you put the laptop in, you add the power switch plug as well.
Okay that was kind of confusing explanation.....but i think you can get my drift....

The docking station does have a power switch. My thoughts with the docking station is that I would rather ruin my $10-15 docking station, than my $600 laptop. Does the above device work when the laptop/docking station is under constant power (DC - AC inverter)? Can it still sense the "Turning on" of the car the the switched power lead?

The module will work with anything that uses a momentary switch to turn the device on. It replicates a momentary switch press for about 1/2 second. You simply wire in the +12vdc (red) and GND(black) to a line that receives power when the car is on and it will replicate the switch press. The green wires are soldered to the momentary switch, either on the laptop, docking station, LCD monitor, whatever...
For the safety function (so it doesn't send a second press for whatever reason), you need the usb part of the module plugged in as well. This does require you to use hibernation and not standby.
Hope this helps... later

Since I've been asked quite a bit, yes, this can be used to turn on a LCD monitor if it uses a momentary switch. This module replicates a momentary switch, so it can be used for anything that uses a momentary switch to turn the device on. LCD monitors, laptops, desktops, docking stations, external hard drives, etc. Enjoy

Since I'm getting alot of requests and questions about this module: - This module replicates a momentary switch, so it will work for anything that uses a momentary switch to power it on.
- If I build you this module, it will come with the plug and jack setup that you see at the beginning of this thread. Printed color instructions/directions will also be included.
- If you'd like to order this module, go -HERE- and submit the request. You can specify cable lengths, etc.
- If I build the module for you, it will cost $35 plus shipping to your location. If it's overseas, please understand that it will cost more. Just specify what you want when you request the module on my site.

lol yeah, it's such a bummer. Just joking, it's cool I can do this and people are actually wanting to use it, and as soon as this next batch of parts comes in, I'll have alot more ready to go out You should see my living room, one side has been turned into an assembly line.
I gotta thank the guys from down under, they've been ordering the majority of them.
