the relays we are using do to have moving parts. they are not solid state.

And simple switching is very different than holding a relay in an on state. I was always told to make use of the relays natural state when designing a circuit.

Yes, these relays do have moving parts...

The 5vdc relays are rated at:

Life Expectancy-
5,000,000 operations minimum (mechanical)
100,000 operations minimum (electrical)

Max Operations Per Hour-
36,000 per hour (mechanical)
1,800 per hour (electrical)

This relay shouldn't have any problems what so ever

We've had guys running with them (myself included) since June/July of last year with no problems.

Partially yes... they will probably outlast the car/carpc, and there are tons of relays used throughout the car... but these do have moving parts and the original question was a valid question... answer being these relays will last a really long time... (or should)

you can get optical relays... I use them all the time in industrial applications and there are 12v flavors as well.

We're not debating whether or not there are relays with no moving parts, the original question was whether or not the relays used in this module/circuit had moving parts in them and the longevity of these relays in the current configuration. I understand there are other types of relays, but for keeping it simple and cheap, this is a decent and proven solution.

I might of chimed in a little soon on the no moving parts thing. I think I saw a couple of people in this thread with solid state relays and confused them with yours. I did purchase one of your kits W3bMa5t3r. Thanks for the quick shipping.

I am building one of your DIY kits and I was wondering if I could get a close up shot of the top of the kit with wires. Also, do you have any idea what the current draw of this circuit is? I am only going to need a few inches of wire for the 12v line, but, I am not sure if the wire you sent me is going to be a little low guage for my project.

To be honest I haven't done the current draw calculations, but the relays only pull a few hundred milliamps - the specs should be listed above... the cable I use is very small guage (not sure of actual, I'd have to check later tonight).

For the pic, what are you looking for exactly?

BTW I don't need the picture anymore. It is already installed. If any one wants to see an alternative use for this module check out my worklog. I mounted it into a DWW-6500 head unit that doesn't (errr well it didn't )turn on car.

CRAP... my bad bro, I forgot all about the pics... glad you got it working though. I have soooo much crap going on. I have a million projects and I'm working 12-14 hour days...
