Work has been more hectic than usual so I haven't been able to get much done. I'll be working on it over the next 3 days though

Dialup Users

What a neat system, especially for those with an always-on Internet connection. I'm wondering, though, how those of us using dialup can use it to provide a somewhat real-time map of our route/location. I would like to be able to connect periodically and have it automatically (or manually through the push of a button) add to the map all the points since my last connection. That doesn't appear to be how it works though.

Steve, does loading the log file update the map incrementally from the last update or does it replace the last update? I'm having a hard time understanding exactly what happens when I load a log file to the server. Also, when running W3bTrack embedded in RR via launch, it would be great to be able to tell when the log file has finished loading to the server.

Again, kudos for a nice piece of work.

A couple of other thoughts: (1) It would be much easier to track trips if we could access information on each point by hovering over the point rather than clicking on it, and (2) Unless I'm missing something there isn't a button for loading the log to the server. In a touch-screen environment it would be much better to have a button to load the log rather than having to do it through the menu.

Well, I used it some more today and I guess I was wrong because it does appear to do incremental updates with each connection. If I manually connect every fifteen minutes or so I get a pretty good mapping of where I've been, albeit in fifteen minute intervals. I seem to get a better result by periodically connecting and letting it do its thing than by trying to upload the log files on a periodic basis.

I'm wondering if any of you brains could offer suggestions on how to make this a little more automated for us dialup users. I'm using the rasdial command to connect to and disconnect from the Internet. Basically, I have two batch files, one to connect and one to disconnect. I have set each of them up in a launch folder so I can simply launch "connect" to connect and "disconnect" to disconnect.

I'm wondering if it would be possible to do a script that would automatically connect every ten minutes and then automatically disconnect say 60 seconds later. If I set my recording interval to 30000 I would then automatically get a location every ten minutes without burning up too many cell phone minutes. I'm not a coder so I have no idea if this is possible.

By the way, Steve, I'm not having any more login issues or difficulty accessing the map web page. I don't know what was going on yesterday.

ok so today was my first day takin this for a test drive. I have my settings on "1", but anyway it didnt seem to upload anything. While I was driving i kept getting the error msg "no gps stats recieved" and the log file is compeletly empty. I know the program is working because in the client i can see the gps lines and its saying its tracking.Sometimes it would ask, do u want to try to connect or work offline. I would hit work offline and it'll come back up like 30seconds eventually crashin the program.

Any help would be appreciated

If it's trying to go online, then it seems like you're trying to use the Tracking Function (uploads data to the server-live tracking). If you're not using an internet connection, and just want to log (save the data to the file), you should just be using the Logging (track to log). The only time data is saved to the log is when tracking to log. If you're using both and you don't have a connection/working offline, it's quite possible that's causing it to crash because it's trying to upload the data but can't.
