Windows Mobile Phone Control

Hey.
Since this is a pretty techy forum, I'm guessing a fair share of the users have cool phones, and at least a few of those have windows mobile phones. I don't believe freefone has WM support and Phoco w/ phocoadapter is now defunct. But, you're not out of luck yet:
If you have a WM5+ phone, there is a very good application called MyMobiler that acts like a remote desktop onto your phone.
You can get it for free at www.mtux.com
I'm sure at least some of you know about this already, but I did a search and only came up with a few hits, so I thought I would post this. Its pretty easy to work with and you can use a keyboard or map keys onto a skin, making life much easier. A couple of users (myself included) have integrated MyMobiler already, so here are some examples:
The6 in his modified mediate Ice skin (RR):
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/soft...skin-6ice.html
Me in Simplisitique (RR):
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/1231227-post450.html
Also, My Mobiler is now skinnable, and you have a greater range of commands using the MyMobiler skinning tools. The example skin that MyMobiler includes isn't very finger friendly (can you see the little buttons under that phone window? that's it), but you can make a very good car interface skin with really good shortcuts: i.e. go directly to SMS, activate Microsoft Voice Command, go to your Calendar.
You will need bluetooth for a headset though, to get audio through your carpc.
Finally, if you decide to use MyMobiler, a helpful tip:
to open the window automatically, use the -open command line prompt. Example:
My Mobiler path\MyMobiler.exe -open
This works will within RoadRunner, and I'm sure with most other Front Ends as well.
You can even Zoom in to double the size of you phone window on your PC if you have a big enough/high enough resolution LCD.

Yeah that looks pretty cool I'd definitely be interested in the programming once I switch back to a windows mobile phone. I recently switched from the Mogul to a Treo 755p and now I'm just waiting for the Treo 800w to be released.

I'll probably do some testing and see if I can get it embedded into LSX Void.. I've just never been good on that side of things.

how does contact browsing work? is it basically just 'emulating' the phone screen? or is it possible to extract the data and into a more car friendly interface?

Contact browsing is what you see on the phone. That is all MyMobiler does, really. Think of it as Remote desktop/VNC for your phone.
I'm sure it is possible to extract contact data, since that is what ActiveSync does, and someone should be able to compile that into a nice list that is car friendly, but I don't really know how to do that.
If you can create a contact list from Outlook, that is what ActiveSync synchronizes with. However, I don't know how to get your carPC to recognize which contact is calling for incoming calls, since that information is NOT sent through ActiveSync.
IMO, the contract browsing is one of the more car friendly interfaces on the phone. You can select the contacts using Soft 2 from the home screen, scroll up or down OR use the OSK to type in a name, and then once you see the name select it (you can tap the name OR scroll one line at a time to get to it) and then hit the call button; all on your skin, except for tapping on the name. The text is a little small, but if you have room, you can try the Zoom feature.
This isn't quite the solution that freefone and phoco are, but it has it's own perks. I do like having the phone screen itself, it's kind of a cool factor.

Hmmm, very nice idea. Now if we can only remove the actual screen that would solve all the problems

This is great I have tried forever to get a phone to work with a carpc for about 4 years.
It took me about 10 minutes to get it to work. I just need some way to get it to switch
automatically to the phone screen when a call comes in. Any suggestions?

I have a T-Mobile dash, WM6.1 Standard (Landscape) so my screen would be a bit smaller and I think the contacts show a bit smaller than on a touch pda. Cool product either way. I might be springing for an iphone3g soon here, assuming someone releases an app to tether it

Unfortunately, I am not a programmer (just took a semester of VB6 in college for my major) and I don't know enough about it anyways. A workaround I'm considering is right next to the phone button in menu.skin in Road Runner to have a button that both loads the skin up and answers the call as well. It's not that great I know, but it should work okay. Also, if you use Microsoft Voice Command, you can set it to prompt you for incoming calls, so you can control via voice. I don't remember if it will read out your contacts name though...

Why would removing the screen solve all the problems?

Subscribed. I use WM 6.1 on my Blackjack. Looks like a good phone solution.

Edit* Up and running, perfect app to integrate wm phone to RR. Thank you for sharing.

On Mtux manual says "Doesn't Work: ActiveSync Via Bluetooth (WM 5.0/WM 6.0)". It'll only works on wifi or cabled connection!

How do you are using it?

Cable connection, then use Bluetooth to headset or other device.

Another question: Anyone figure out how to map the Speakerphone button on the phone? My Mot Q9h has such a button and I'd like to activate it with the touchscreen rather than fumble to press the button on the phone.
