Windows Mobile-based Phones
One can easily connect their car PC to the internet could with many Windows Mobile-based phones. There is an internet sharing application and you can select whether you want to share your GPRS/3G connection either via USB if your phone is connected to your car PC with a USB cable, or via Bluetooth if you have a Bluetooth-enabled car PC.
Bear in mind that such a setup will reduce the battery life of your phone because of the relatively high density of data with internet usage, as opposed to the lower density of phone calls/SMS. Also, the speed and bandwidth will be limited to those of your phone's connection, and then possibly further restricted by the connection you choose (USB or Bluetooth).
There is some more info about internet sharing on Windows Mobile on xda-developers.com. I'll post the thread links when I find them
Hope this helps. Perhaps it could be turned into a sticky thread.

No, he is literally talking about a program in WM6.1 called Internet Sharing. As a note though you have to have tethering on the phone otherwise companies like Sprint will charge you extra. There is a hack to disable them being able to track whether or not they can track it.

Whoops. I forgot about the integrated Internet Sharing. The tracking by the provider was part of the reason I've never used that option.

I'm registered at XDA. WMWifiRouter started out there as well, before they went commercial with it.

Not to threadjack, what exactly is WMWifiRouter used for? Because my setup is, I have a Sprint Air card on the PC, but also a Wifi card. I want to be able to share the Air Card through the wifi connection. So say you and me park next to each other, you can pick up the signal to the wifi and connect that way..... is that what that program is for?

The basic premise is to share your mobile phone's data service by turning your phone into an network access point both wirelessly via wifi or bluetooth but also wired via USB. It also supports WEP encryption. They have a website, you can google it if you want to know more.

not so hard
i have no tethering plan and link all the time. the WMWifirouter is only for phones with wifi on them and works well but eats the battery fast. but it also means your buddy in the back seat has wifi internet as well if you let him. Im still setting up my carputer but as of now i am using a at&t tilt with a custom firmware and the "internet connection sharing" application via usb. when using the usb sharing you are also charging your phone making it the best solution for long road trips.
if you purchase a tethering plan from any of the major companies ( Verizon, att, t mobile ) its about 60$ a month and has a 5 gig limit. that's the fair way to play. if you have unlimited internet on your phone and use a mod to allow your pc to get online using that you run the risk of getting caught and fined or having your account canceled.

Actually you don't even need tethering service. The tethering service is just a "numbers" game for the providers to charge you to use the same data rate as you would without the service by connecting to a PC. All you need is the Internet Sharing app on your device.
I have a WM6 device with Verizon...though I also have unlimited data plan (very important)
I use bluetooth dialup flawlessly with my LINUX with no tethering plan, no USB. I cancelled the plan because I learned its the exact same speed and I can get around the extra charge with tethering...(I still pay flat rate on unlimited data which is still way cheaper than tethering charge). I actually use my EEE PC as my car pc. I'm still working on my in car mobile solution project.

Check out PDAnet ( http://www.junefabrics.com/pdanet/index.php). That's the program I use to do my tethering on my Moto Q9c. It's not free (~40 bucks) but it works really well.
