How to make hardware to install automatically without "Found new hardware wizard" ?

Hi all,

I have been searching for month now.

I am on XP professionnal.

If I change my mouse or my keyboard for USB one, Windows won't automatically install driver for these simple devices. It will ask my help to make the installation (I just need to click on "NEXT").

I would like Windows to instal alone this kind of stuff without prompting with "Found new hardware wizard".

Any help would be appreciated.

Brice.

Try using the disk that came with the keyboard/mouse. Install the drivers first, then plug the new hardware in. If the disk is done right it will already have the driver installed and auto-detect the device, like when you plug in a USB stick or a USB cd-rom.

Also, you should be able to just do one at a time and use the keyboard or mouse that is still plugged in (one or the other) to get through the install new hardware wizard.

Thank you for your answer galvitron.

The exemple of the keybord/mouse was juste an example.

But when you say "Try using the disk that came with the keyboard/mouse. Install the drivers first"...How do you explorer ce CD for the installation without any keyboard /mouse working! They are both USB and are "still" not recognized because they need to install drivers....with PS2 keyboard/mouse that I don't have!

Bios regonize USB but not Windows still the drivers are installed.

Do you understand now?

That's why my question is "How to make hardware to install automatically without "Found new hardware wizard" ? "
and not
"How could I do to make my keyboard / mouse working...."

But thank you again.

Another example, for car PC, Imagine each time a friend would plas his usb stick on your PCCAR becasue he has got some fresh good songs, then when it plug it, Windows can't play it untill you click next in the "Found new hardware wizard"

When I say try using the disk that came with the device and run the driver install program. It won't detect the device because it is not plugged in but it will copy the driver to system32 folder, which will help windows auto-detect it when it is plugged in. Basically, you need to get it installed once so that every time you plug it in it doesn't ask you over and over.

I have understand this.

But how could you explain that for a simple USB keyboard or mousse, the system desn't install alone....The only thing I do is clicking "next" and it installs its own drivers without any CD.

Another example, once I pluged the device in an usb port and installed driver, if I unplug it and plug it again in the same USB port, no problem.

But if I change the USB port, It asks me again to install driver.

I have no explanation for this. Is it a normal XP installation, or have you used Nlite or similar?

Oh, I see.

Well, just do it for every USB port... Sounds bad, but may fix your problem.

There may be a registry setting to disable the prompt...

That's what I am looking for....

I thought found some solutions in "gpedit.msc" services (start-->run-->gpedit.msc) but it doesn't solve the problem.

Considering you're using a stripped-down version of XP, you may or may not have access to all the utilities and services that a full-blown install of XP would have.

That is the single biggest reason I will not go to TinyXP, MicroXP, GamerXP or BloodyFrigginSmallXP. I don't know what I can/can not troubleshoot and what tools are available to me.

I know about that.

But this version fit exactly for why I need but only this problem is my problem.

I am looking for one person whom know enough on registry to solve it.

Thinking outside of the box you could use an autoit script that would sit in the tray, and whenever it detected the 'add new hardware' wizard it would take control of window and press next twice.

That would be easy to do in AutoIT
