Front ends survive the hibernation just find. What I meant was they're not good with EWF at the moment. They will play the song they were at when you create your hibernation image every time they start up.
So freeze it playing Tool, then resume. Select ABBA, listen to that. Stop half way through. Resume. It's back to tool. As much as I like tool, I don't want that to me the playlist playing every time I start up. Not like I want it to be ABBA either.

Oh, I see. I thought you meant they couldn't resume right. What happens if you install the frontend on your external, unprotected drive?

For those with XM, why not hiberate with one of your favorite channels playing. Should be a different song each time you hope in. Same true for FM. Then just switch to your database if so desired.

I have FrodoPlayer installed on an unprotected partition. With the HORM setup it still loads in the same spot. I guess it's not reading from the state file on resume.

FrodoPlayer does not have a state file.
Currently you are just resuming from a normal hibernate,
so that's exactly what is supposed to happen.

I see. I thought you maintained some sort of state file. How does Frodoplayer resume from where I left off when I close then reopen the application?

I installed minlogon on my system just now. Boot times have improved by a good 10 seconds. I'm down to a boot time just over 35 seconds to a usuable desktop.
Time to start making some registry changes to stop some stuff from happening at boot up.
I'll try to compile a list of changes as I do it.

*EDIT* That 35 seconds includes post. My Eden 9000M posts in about 10 seconds. That's when I see the XP logo appear.

I've been following this thread and the other mini logon thread for a while and would like to say nice job to everyone that has contributed to this. I can understand how these optimizations can speed up the boot times from a cold boot, but will they help from hibernation as well? I'm already hibernating my system and my experience has been that most of the time it takes my computer to return from hibernation is the time it takes to read the hibernation file back from the hard drive. Will I beable to speed up the return from hibernation on my system without a compact flash boot device-just using the methods developed in this thread?

No. EWF is simply to protect your filesystem and is required for a hibernate once resume many system.
Minlogon is only for a faster boot.
One possible finished solution is to use EWF to protect your filesystem and minlogon to speed up the boot process, avoiding hibernation altogether and saving 256megs of hard drive space for the hibernation file.
The final goal being to put the entire OS running in read only mode on a 512 or 1G compactflash card.
Now all your media can be on a removable USB harddrive and safe from cold weather, and can be easily brought inside the house too.
If booting can be as quick as resuming from hibernation, this would be an optimal solution in my opinion.

Knubile please say your going to write a guide on how to do all this
Copy XP to FC for IDE HD Boot - Done
Reduce XP to 280MB using nlite - waiting on details
Setting up EWF - Protection of file system.
Setting up MinLogon XP - for faster boot times

I`m getting reall confused by all of these topics now and different methods people are using

Also details of bootup time and hardware being used please..

I can upload a complete doc which includes some updates actually. I've found a couple more registry settings that may improve boot times with minlogon as well remove some unnecessary entries. I've got it all in a word document now.

Shame we cant post the file as a stick msg. I`m sure it would be useful to a lot of people out there. and the file will probably get lost in the forum over the next couple of months.

SFiorito. Are you working off the doc I posted? If so PM me when you've made your last changes. We can shoot it back and forth a couple of times and finalize a good version of it.
I got my CF adapter in today. Trying to get it to boot off of that now. I'll post my results.
