With no other drives connected then it would be the default
"ArcName"="multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1) "
If you get NTLDR is missing, it really seems like you didn't rename the ewfntldr to ntldr, and put it into your C: root directory.

ewf, Windows disk protection, booting readonly in disk mode
I wanted to try ewf on XP, but after some study on the net i found out that ewf driver is already included in the Microsoft Shared toolkit, it's called "Windows disk protection" and it's very easy to set up and no fiddling with windows embedded components. Per default it uses disk mode. As it uses ewfmgr and the same driver maybe someone could figure out how to get Ram Mode also? Then we would not have any license problem...
Here is my story about trying to boot from readonly disk with "Windows disk protection":
I had one scsi drive, later set to write protected where i put the "protection partition" and one ide drive where the "disk overlay" was put. It is described in the Shared computer toolkit handbook (i think it's in chapter 6) how to do get the overlay in unpartitioned space on a second drive.
When i finally had set up everything right (according to the great tutorial by sfiorito) and set the scsi drive to write protected by a jumper, it rebooted before entering the desktop. It did not boot to the desktop. i think there is some write attempt that causes the reboot.
Why did i want to do that?
I had to set up a public computer, and this would be ultimate security. booting off readonly media. Ram mode is too limiting and disk mode is not (yet?) working.
Maybe someone wants to try that or has some hint how to get rid of that last problem? I would really like to find a way for readonly disk overlay with a second writeenabled disk.

alright...I did everything I was supposed to. I think the problem was that for some odd reason, my hard drive wasn't set up to be my primary hard drive...
Anyways, like I was saying, I followed the instructions, have minlogon working, put the three files where they needed to be, updated the registry, got windows to boot up, checked to see if all of the registry keys were updated (which they were) went to run ewfmgr, but I get an error: "Failed getting protected volume configuration with error 1."
Any idea on what that is? or how to fix it?

You would need to do a Windows search in the Repositories folder, and then check the date on each of the ewfntldr and ewf.sys that you find as there are multiple versions of these files even with the latest install of xpe. The one with the most recent date as shown by Windows is the one you want.

quick question, once I find the most recent files, do I just replace the files I already copied with the most recent? Or do I have to do the whole registry editing thing too?

Well, to err on the side of caution, I replaced the files with my most recent versions, did the regedit, rebooted and found the NTLDR is missing error...I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong...and input would be appreciated

Hi, I installed several times ewf on my first partition ( c: ) with success, but Iīm working also with a second one ( d: ) that includes all my mp3.
The problem is always the same: After doing all ewf install I hibernate to create a valid image to HORM, even if I install RR and winamp on d: , I always return to the same song position, (maybe because I do not flush memory on disks). I read that I must dismount (hide) other drives before make a valid image with ewf, but If I make the image without d: I cannot hibernate with RR running in that moment. Somebody has this running? How people do this?

Well, I don't use HORM, but I would imagine that it would resume to whatever song you hibernated on. Also, I don't know why you'd want to EWF your MP3 drive. EWF is really only useful to make sure you don't corrupt your OS and to make sure you don't have a lot of write cycles to flash media. (Someone can tell me if I'm completely of base about this...)

Well, still making probs and even more confused: Winamp installed on D: (with the mp3 folders); RR and Xp on C:
After making ewf steps and before make hibernation point, D: is hiden with Pqmagic. Make the hibernation and show D:
Now the system is not seeing D:. If I restart Xp I lose the hibernation file.
In my opinion itīs impossible make ewf work with 2 partitions in a local disk.

Bsod
First of all i would like to apologize about my English.
I made all the process in a windows XP PRO y it works fine one day, the when the date of the machine change i got a BSOD with the error IRQ_LESS_OR_EQUAL.
If I change the date again to the day I made the process it works fine again.
I configure the machine so that it do not use paging file.
