I have reads this thread a few times, and I am pulling out the rest of my hair as I write this. I have tried following Fetlyd's instructions, but it just isnt happening. I need to know more! For example, it says to "Copy the latest minlogon.exe file from XPe to \Windows\System32 and rename it winlogon.exe". Ok, fine and well, but where do I get the minlogon.exe file? I downloaded XPe and it is only one file. How is it extracted? I then tried to perform the other steps, and they seem out of order, and repeated in different posts. Like making folders and .txt documents, but they are already done in Fetlyd's download??? Can someone rewrite, with links to the downloads, how this is accomplished? I have done a lot with Xp, my unattended setup installs many programs for me and does all the reg tweaks...I have learned a lot on MSFN...but I cant get past these problems trying this setup.
...Maybe im just tired?

the minlogon.exe is in ewf.zip, in one of the first posts..
Have you guys tried copying the file over in safe mode? How about using nlite to disable SFC?

Ahhh....i see. I didnt realize it was IN that EWF file.
Its hard to follow when it seems that updates keep occuring and I cant tell what has been changed in the previous posts I am doing this up as a CD, not to my existing system, so it was a bit confusing what had to be done where.
That helps a ton though, thank you!

FetLyd, does your exe contain compressed versions of minlogin and ewf, or do you need them seperatley?

Thanks.
Was just going back through the posts then realised I had done anything before building the image, other than unzipping your $OEM$ folder, left it doing an unattended install on my test VMware this morning before I left for work. Damn, how stupid. that's going to work well.
Good job, I can at least see how small the base Nlited install is, if the missing files haven't fubared the install.

My computer that I have been testing this with has no password on startup before the changes. After running the Fetlyd.exe program (accidentally kind of ) it now boots up with the w2k style login but hangs and asks for a username and password. I have tried everything but cant get past it. Is there password set during this install?
It isnt a huge deal, but would be nice if I could get back in to recover some stuff from the last few days

OK, minlogin worked sort of.
XP Pro Corp with a streamlined SP2 using Nlite.
Downloaded fetlyd.zip and EWF.zip
for the minlogin stuff,
put commandlines.txt and fetlyd.reg in $oem$
put fetlyd.exe minlogon.exe and minlogon.reg in $oem$/$$/system32
Then created and installed the Nlited ISO onto a VMWare virtual box.
It only installed XP as normal , and on a reboot carried on using winlogon.
I had a look through the registry for the fetlyd.exe in the runonce keys, and nothing there.
fetlyd.exe was in the system32 folder, so I ran it by hand and it over copied the winlogon correctly.
Rebooted and I now have a fairly quick minlogon booting into the system account.

The program I threw together does not set any passwords.. Actually, with MinLogin, i think you should'nt have gotten that login screen at all.. Anyways, good thing you figured it out..
