Hmmm... My EpiaM10KN with a 2.5" seagate drive (5400rpm) usually boots in 13-15 seconds with minlogon installed. Disable networking and most of my services and I can get down to 10-12 seconds.

Use frodo as shell and I can have the app launch in about 10 seconds (useable in about 13-14 seconds) Take a look at the bootvis plots in the link below.

My guess is that your configuration could use some optimization. What do your driver delays look like when you run bootvis?

Look in the services page in the control panel under administrative tools.

Actually your times don't look bad ~ 16 seconds. The brown bar on the graphs represents the point in time where the "start" button in explorer becomes available, at that point in time you can start using the os. The spoolsv.exe is your print spooler, go head and disable that service. S3hotkey and Vttimer are installed by the graphics driver install program. I've removed them from the startup on my system (delete the relavant registry entry) and have not noticed any ill affects.

Are you including the bios time (time when the system startup screen showing bios version, cpu, memory, connected devices etc to XP start) in the times you listed in your previous post? If so you can reduce that to about 5-6 seconds by enabling the fast boot option and disabling devices that you are not using (onboard lan, FIR etc).

As for the long network delay... the problem may be in either the configuration or the drivers. Try a couple of different driver versions and see if that makes a difference. With my dlink usb stick the older drivers can lead to a 6-7 sec delay, while the latest version (surprisingly only found on the microsoft site) has about a 1-2 sec delay.

By combing through the CMOS settings, and disabling two or three more services, I was able to shave off another 2 seconds to the start button. As for the "network delay," that's caused by winxp taking it's time to start up my wireless connection. I have no idea why. It doesn't mess with the boot time at all, just the time to get a connection. In fact I took out the wifi card and it only had like a 1/2 second off and that was probably from pcmcia.sys. It doesn't bother me much.

Anyway, momanz, thanks for all your help and advice. I think I've reached the comfortable limit on a 4200rpm hard drive -- about 15 seconds flat -- I know I could go around disabling all kinds of services but I feel that would lead to trouble down the line and it's not worth a second or two. The only option now is to move to 5400rpm or 7200rpm.

Minlogon and Reatogo (BartPE), is it possible?

Hi all,

i know hoe to use Minlogon in "regular" WinXP, it works me well, thanks to SFiorito :-)

I use ReatogoXPE (www.reatogo.de), based on BartPE (www.nu2.nu/pebuilder). It would be great if we can integrate minlogon under Reatogo.

If i use SFiorito guide in Reatogo, it reboots when desktop is activated. Can anybody help me, please?

Hi,

Have you got a Embedded Studio installed? If yes, search a repository for minlogon.exe (17 kB).

The first step in preparing a CF install is to download the XPe SP2 trial from Microsoft’s MSDN site: http://msdn.microsoft.com/embedded/w...d/default.aspx. The install will create a network share on your system called ‘Repositories’. This is where all the XPe components are stored.

I cant seem to make it work with WindowsXP SP2.

I'm not using XPe or lite. Just a normal XP installation without any other programs. I have followed all the instructions but winlogon keeps on replacing itself. I cant use that minlogon.exe for winlogon.exe.

Thnx

EDIT: Ok!!! I did it by replacing winlogon connecting my HD to another machine. This + bootvis it takes me now only 31 secs, when i used to take 1,30" !!! But, can it be possibly faster?

Thnx
