I don't see why not. You may want to try it in VMWare or VirtualPC first though.

Okay, so who's tried this and have they checked things out? My VIA system seems fine. One thing I noticed reading through some documents on MSDN is that MSFT claims hibernation doesn't work with minlogon because of some security issues. But I've got hibernation working on my VIA system with minlogon and ewf fine. Standby works as well. But maybe that's because I had hibernation set up before I installed minlogon.
**EDIT**: okay, it seems in SP2 minlogon DOES support standby and hibernation. So ignore my last...

This mod would only improve cold boot times and would not affect resume from hibernation times correct? But I guess if the memory footprint is smaller with minlogon, then coming out of hibernation could be a little faster too.

Motoko: If you're getting the logon screen then you missed something. You said you were having problems copying minlogon so I'm willing to bet your system is still running winlogon. When the windows file protection dialog comes up you need to hit cancel overwise it'll restore the normal winlogon.
CombatCQB: that's correct. hibernation won't benefit from this unless you consider a smaller OS image as well as less ram being used up. This mod is purely for cold booting speed and footprint.

you said winlogon was "reproducing" itself. that sounds like windows file protection to me. the file should be 17KB in size.

I will do tomorow when I am back home. And if I get it working first think I do them is measuring boot times "before" and "after"

Damn!
I got minlogon working fine, so i decided to make Centrafuse the shell.
Big mistake that was. All it does is cause errors. And with minlogon not supporting CTRL+ALT+DEL i can't run regedit to change back. Last known good config doesn't work either. Safe Mode doesn't help.
I will see if the recovery console can help.
Just thought i would let you guys know.
