Have a program that uses systemhook to alt+ctrl+del that brings up a task manager. Search for alternative task managers.. they should work.

Well i got my system back to using explorer for the shell.
I still had network access to the drive, so i copied explorer.exe to the centrafuse folder and renamed the files then rebooted. It worked like a charm.
also did a little research and i can't find anyway of enabling CTRL+ALT+DEL with minlogon.

What errors were you getting when you changed the shell??
*EDIT*: Also, what registry key did you change for the shell. I seem to remember that minlogon handled things differently maybe... Not sure about that one, I'll have to reread the MSDN docs.

I just changed the 'Shell' entry under [HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS NT\WINLOGON]
from 'Explorer.exe' to 'C:\Program Files\...\centrafuse.exe'
Yeah, i didn't write down the errors, which was stupid. I will change the shell again and take down the errors and pass them to the creator of centrafuse.

One thing that's a bit unclear for me.. Is this method using XP emb. or an ordinary XP? (Nlited).. If it's NOT XP emb., where can we download minLogon?
EDIT: Nevermind.. I found it.. Thanks SWC!

You'll get an error, everything but one subkey will have been deleted. Then highlight all the reg values in Winlogon and delete them.
What reg files do you delete? i dont see any

If you don't see any reg values or keys under winlogon then you're fine. Now run the reg import file.

Has anybody tried Talisman windows skinning software, that has an automated shell switcher...
Looks quite neat too.

FetLyd. How did you manage to put EWF and minlogon into the nLite ISO?

.
For those of you who are looking to do this, I've done it and the results we're F***ING awesome.
nLite'd XP pro (down to 700mb) (w/Sp2)
Installed the on my laptop (newly formatted)
Installed bootvis, ran it 4 times (windows needs a few times restarted to optimize itself)
My boot times were 28-32 seconds
Installed, Minlogon
Ran BootVis
My startup times are between 16-22 seconds...
I havent optimized the drive, I haven't taken down any of the services yet or even reduced the size of Xp's foot print.
I purely just wanted to see what all this was about, it is definatly worth it. I can't wait to disable iExplore.exe and embed my GUI.
Thanks guys for the indepth instructions, everyone else planning on doing this it took me a night (2 hours to research and read up about this and 2 hours to complete it, building XP-installingXP-Re-Config using Minlogon)

I'm working on this right now too ... though I'm starting with a more stripped nLited XPSP2 image (~390MB installed). I'll do my testing in vmWare. Hopefully the combination of minLogin and EWF can give quick boots and allow me to avoid hibernation all together (Audigy NX doesn't like hibernation).

Hi,
I just wanted to confirm one thing.
Does it work with an already activated copy of XP, i.e. not the Corporate version?
Much appreciated,
nihilist
