I am using a fairly generic Asian adapter found on ebay. I've tested this model over and over on different boards and different CF cards and it always gives good results. I usually buy like 3 or 5 at a time because they are so cheap shipped from overseas. Here is a link to a similar auction:

I have a dual CF IDE adapter that is working well using a fast UDMA card with EWF and HORM. I would like to use the other slot for another slower card but if I do this it slows down everything to the speed of the slower card. Does anyone know if there is any way to avoid this? I'd like to get an even larger capacity card that is not as fast (cheaper) but I don't want to lose the speed of the fast card.

-winxp on an old laptop
-UDMA card: PNY Optima (fixed)
-slower card: Sandisk extreme2 (fixed/removable using atcfwchg)

ewf installer

Hello,

I had trouble installing the ewf. I have put together an installer to make this easier for others. It's been tested on an EEE PC 2g fat32.

All you do is click on ewf.exe, it will ask you what you want.
defaults are enable, disable, remove and press enter.
pressing enter will install ewf.

After the install you can type "ewf enable", or "ewf disable" in cmd to install software, etc.

If you get that annoying windows restore menu at bootup, go to System Properties>Advanced>Startup and Recovery>Uncheck Time to display recovery options.

Obviously you need to disable & restart, then you can remove ewf.
The remove function only works properly from ewf.exe, and not from ewf.bat

Enjoy.

Is anyone else running a USB drive as a writeable partition? Im running the following hardware:

-4GB CF on a CF to IDE adapter with EWF
-80Gig IDE HDD (just holds all the installation files for setup, wont be in final build)
-16GB USB Flash
-VIA EPIA-M 1GHZ Nehemiah
-512 MB RAM

The CF runs Xpe on EWF
The IDE HDD has XP sp2 on it with Target Designer

My problem is that if any USB flash drive is present XPe will not hibernate. But it will hibernate when the 80gb IDE HDD is present. So the problem isnt that there is an unprotected drive present, but that there is a USB drive present.

Any ideas?

Edit: Problem Solved
If any of the USB booting components exist in your design (in Target Designer) then you will not be able to hibernate with a USB Key present.

Don't know what I'm doing wrong. First time (well, second) trying to get EWF working, and both times it trashed my registry, causing instant reboot after recovery options screen. Thinking I might have corrupted copies of the ewf files. Anyone else ever see this situation? Guess I'll be doing a fresh install, while I search for the latest ewf files. Anyone got a download link for them? Thanks.

How do I get HORM to work? Do I need to disable EWF, create the resmany.dat and hibernate then restart EWF?

Freaking SFC (System File Checker)!!!!!! I cannot get SFC disabled in Windows.. I have modified a 5.1.2600.1106 version of SFC_OS.DLL and copied it over to the system32 and dllcache directories and I've changed the regsitry entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SFCDisable to FFFFFF9D.

Still, when I rename winlogon.exe to winlogon.old and go to copy over minlogon freaking windows already has copied back over winlogon.exe!?!?

WTF!?

Do you have EWF enabled? If so, turn it off.(Start-->Run-->CMD and run ewfmgr c: -commitanddisable -live) THEN do the regedit tweaks and reboot. Replace the file, turn EWF back on(Start-->Run-->CMD and run ewfmgr c: -enable) and reboot. That should do it.

OK, I couldn't find the program, but I think this'll do the trick as well. I'll continue searching for the program, but until then: "How to completely disable Windows System File Protection (SFC) in Windows XP (all versions and Service Packs)"

Wow.. If it's really that easy I'm going to kick myself for going through all the hex editing, hours of googling, etc trying to get it disabled..

I'll try that tomorrow (took the PC to work).

Thanks again!

This program works, it's not the one I was thinking about, because the one I was thinking about just did the registry hack for you. This one lets you replace SFC protected files.

NOTE: I have not checked this program for viruses! And if this program messes up your computer, I'm sorry!
