I really hate to post this in a sticky..... but this thread really needs to have a sticky reply up top linking people to places to resources that enable them to actually create and use these bootscreens. I have tried a number of different things to make the bootscreen I designed work properly, and it flat out will not work. If I can get it together, I'll post it. So, what is it that I need exactly to get things working properly?

To apply your new bootscreen just boot into safe-mode (F8 at startup) and replace it.
http://www.thetechguide.com/howto/xpbootlogo/

Or if you're making a nLite'd windows version, just compress the kernel and replace the one on the cd.
Couldn't find a guide for this method, but what you do is locate the "makecab.exe" file
on your computer (normally in Windows\System32 folder) and copy it to the folder of your new ntoskrnl
file (saves you from writing the different paths).

Then open the command prompt, go into that folder, type "Makecab ntoskrnl.exe ntoskrnl.ex_" followed by enter.
Replace the original ntoskrnl.ex_ file in the i386 folder of your new XP system (the one to be nlited).

You might want to test your new kernel/windows image with WMWare or similar virtual computers
before you start burning CD's and installing Windows just in case something went wrong.
