So what about finite read/writes on CF?

I'm interested in Dominik's question. Does anyone know if CF cards have a finite read/write life as compared to harddrives? I also thought I'd seen something about this, um, somewhere.

Yes, CF cards have a finite life. I have hit this point in my development of embedded systems with CF drives. Some cards handle failing blocks better than others.

Wow. There's a million replies to this in less than a day.

K. For system specs, check my sig.
I'm using an Extreme not an Extreme III.
I don't think my nlite setup is final at all yet. There are other threads about this. I'm looking for advice on this myself.
CF card do have a limited read/write life. That's why I am using EWF. Search on this if you don't know what I'm talking about. There's been a lot of discussion about it.
I am also using minlogon.
I used bootvis on the laptop drive 4 times before imaging it to the CF card.

Hope that answers everything for now.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ is where I found mine. Should be here on Friday unless they're bull****ting about having it in stock. We'll see.

one problem left SFiorito. Are you getting this too? Every time I boot up with EWF enabled I get the windows failed to start properly message. I hit continue anyways and it works fine.

Yeah, I always get that so I just disabled the boot up error message. There's probably some registry setting to fix that check somewhere.

Dude! What docs?!?! I looked all over the forums andthis link.

Searched for chkdsk everywhere. Nothing about disabling it.

Where did you bury it?!?

P.S. If you post one of those search or google emoticons, I'm going to come over there and shove my Sandisk Extreme you know where.

Well, the boot up error message is in System Properties under the first EWF paragraph, disabling chkdsk is a reg setting in the new doc under Session Manager\BootExecute. Normally it's got a chkdsk command in there, but we clear it out so it doesn't run anything.

knubile: bhphotovideo shipped my Extreme III so I guess it's for real. Hopefully this will improve boot times by a good bit. We'll see....
