Tinyxp vs nlite vs sensible install

After a few days of searching and ALOT of reading im no wiser as to the best way to install XP on a machine. I realise alot of this depends of your experiance and what you want out of your carpc install. What im really asking is from people that have tried most of these methods where they end up putting their faith.

At the moment im leaning towards a standard Xp install then cleaning it up after following the various guides on the internet. This way i think i should be able to achieve a circa 400mb install and have most of the xp functionality without too much hasstle. However this will be install 1 for me for a carpc so asking from the guys that have tried several methods.

I just redid my whole setup with TinyXP rev04 and it works great.
Windows folder as of now is 350MB with huge improvement on performance and boot up times.
I got RR running great with bluetooth (installed widcomm 4), wi-fi, tons of usb devices, hibernation, verizon evdo card... couldn't be happier

Just make sure you install the latest video drivers for hibernation to work.

My 2 cents......I can get a full install of XP to boot just as quick as TinyXP REV04 and I know most any software or hardware I install will work. The downside was the RR was running a bit sluggish on my latest reinstall, even tried multipl installations to no avail.

Tried out TinyXP REV04 and RR was seemed to react quicker, but was having driver install issues. I just made my own ISO with some more hardware support, 16bit compatability, Speech/SAPI, and Bluetooth support. ISO is 230+megs vs TinyXP REV04 144megs. Haven't installed it yet as I want to find an RW disc to write to, have a couple someplace.

I added more than I needed to. It's a mixture between REV03 and Platinium, so I might slim it down some more. It's not hard to create your own ISO esp. with the guide from the TinyXP forum that pretty much does everything for you. You simply choose what you want from the ini.

Sounds good to me, think il just give my install a try with a sensible xp install then if its not fast enough il go the tinyxp route. I want to have full hardware support of xp as i intened to have lots of usb devices and wifi etc....

If you are using anything more powerful than a VIA setup I would say you are fine with a full windows install and some optimizations/tweaking.

why not just install 2 copies of windows on the computer then.

Cause seriously, why have all these secuirty holes, system hogs etc, running, or even on the hard drive, when if you dont use half the **** you have most the time.

Personally I use microwinX for my gaming needs. So i know even after installing all your drivers, all you need to game, is 50MB of files.
