Adding components (modem support) that were removed on nlite install to current XP

Ok, here's the deal. A few months ago I made what I thought to be the perfect custom XP install using nlite. At the time I thought I'd never need dial-up modem support in the car. That was all fine and dandy until I wanted to use my LG-235 as a modem via bluetooth.

I know the phone will pair with the BT dongle and have connected to the Internet using the phone as a modem on my laptop with a OEM XP install.

I know according to nlite's FAQ say you can't really add a component once it's been removed. Supposedly the only way to do such a thing is to import a previous session to further refine the selections made in that previous session to include what you removed. Then of coarse I would presume that would call for a re-install of the entire newly modded OS

So does anyone know of a method/hack to add this dial-up modem support into my current very stable and highly personalized XP install? All my 'net scouring left me mostly empty handed and discouraged. I'm holding out for a mp3car hero to save the day. ....Please?

Couldn't you just install the driver from the install CD that came with the phone (or the latest updated version from the website)?

or use the add hardware wizard and select the driver if it still works on your install?

Normally, I could but it's like windows doesn't even know what a modem driver is.

Oh man. Me thinks you're scr3w3d. The only suggestion I have is to try "add / remove hardware" If thats even in your nLite build.

Actually some more suggestions are comming as I'm typing this. What does the device show up as in System?? If it's showing up as unknown you may have a chance. Try selecting the modem's .inf file from system.

If I remember correctly though most nlites posted (including the one I created and I think was modifed a few times) takes out modem support... You might have to slipin the drivers on a new nLite plus enable modem support... it might be quicker to re-build an nLite.

Could always build a new cd with nLite then run a repair on your current XP install... maybe you wouldn't loose much.

or if that fails, create a new nlite CD with modem support, and then install that and your original onto different partitions and compare the registry differences and file differences between them with a 3rd party app. The modem support entries should be the only differences...

Beyond Compare is excellent for comparing directories.

If you still have your sessions file, you can recreate the nlited OS.

There is no way to add it, even with the control panel. I know cause I tried with the exact same thing. I was using TinyXP, but couldn't get my Blackberry to work because it removed the modem.
