XP on a flash card
Is it possible to install XP on a compact flash card and make it read-only and use the hard drive for swap files etc. or do you have to use Windows XP embedded to make an image file for the flash card. I have heard that Windows embedded is a very tricky program to use.
Thanks for any help

Yes, it's possible.
If you search the forums here, there is a tutorial.

Yup, very tricky to use.
If you're going this route, forget the swap file altogether. Just use enough ram that you shouldn't have to worry. When I had my sys setup in Read Only, I didn't use a swap at all. I have 512mb ram, seems to be fine. Could watch movies, cruise the internet, play music, etc.

just remember that flash cards have a limited number of read / write cycles, therefore eventually it will fail.
I used some for an embedded pc for work a while ago and had to replace them all within 6 months, i'd go with DiskOnChip, thats what i replaced the flash with. Yes it is still a type of flash but more durable.

Not read/write cycles, thought it was just write cycles. Hence the read-only.
