I scrapped the idea of using pcmcia card as it keeps freezing comp for some reason, so im gonna open a usb stick, i'll post some pics when its done.
Thanks

Ok pics below damn its easier to scan it than take a photo

it's a TP-link TL-WN320G

What I want to do is fix a cable to it so I can plug in or remove the external antenna as required

Not going to happen with that one. The little ufl hirose connector isn't made for repeated insertions and removals. Even with the proper pigtail you migt need to disable the built in antenna. So unless you can pick up a second wifi adapter, I'd leave it alone.

Not one that has both an internal and external antenna.

Probably not without breaking it, but you can attach the dongle to the mast.

My mast arrived this morning damn looks a little different to the picture, but anyways its a lo smaller than expected so disconecting it will no longer be an issue, just need to know where to solder to and wire type when you have 5 mins to spare Barry.

P.s. Thanks for your input so far !!

I made my mast from scratch. Did you get anywhere with this? What I ended up doing at the end was using a really thin coax cable (like ear phone cable) to connect the dongle to the bottom of the mast below the decoupler. I used about 3 inches of a thin cable and it works really well. It's still working and I'm using it in the house currently. I got tired of my mirror bouncing around on the highway after about 6 months of having it mounted. If anyone ever tried to make one, find something thinner and lighter than 3/4" pvc to put your antenna inside of. I need to find some half inch fiberglass still.
