That's right, and "the right hardware" is any BT dongle! But the problem is that there's no PC software available that would just emulate a headset or handsfree (by using headset or handsfree BT profiles) - all phone integration software developers out there took the path of least resisitance using DialUp Networking profile to talk to the phone because it's easier to program, even though some phones don't support it this way.

If I'm a bit late to the game, sorry for bringing it back up...

Centrafuse is claiming that their next update will allow integration with the iPhone using the headset protocol. Centrafuse Forum. Although I don't think I'm willing to switch from RR to Centrafuse just for the phone software, it is an interesting development. At least we know it's possible, eh?

They say it will have limited functionality (No contact forwarding, etc.), but that it will still be usable. And I bet if you have the contacts in the computer, the callerID etc. will still function.

I have an LG Muziq for Sprint, which I understand is CDMA. I also understand that CDMA phones are notoriously difficult to use with Freefone, etc.

Having said all that, I did successfully connect the Muziq to my laptop through a bluetooth connection. I could hear the phone call through the laptop's speakers, and the person I called could hear me through the laptop's microphone.

However, the two issues I ran into were getting Freefone to recognize the Muziq, and controlling the Muziq. I installed the Muziq on the laptop as a modem. This enabled me to connect the Muziq to my laptop so I can connect to the internet through the phone, using Sprint's Phone As Modem feature. Doing this created a driver for the phone. Programs such as Hyperterminal could see the phone when it was connected and I could dial out numbers through the phone. Only problem is that the phone must be connected in data mode, which disabled voice calls while in that mode, thereby rendering phone number commands ineffective anyway.

The second problem I had was getting Freefone to recognize the Muziq. I had to manually change the commport Freefone looked at to recognize the Muziq, and even then, it would only recognize the Muziq when the phone was connected to the laptop either through the USB cable or through bluetooth.

Another option for audio is to physically connect an audio cable to the phone's headset jack and use a headphone converter or something to connect that to the computer somehow.

Having said all that, I believe it's possible to connect the Iphone to a computer through bluetooth as a headset/audio profile. If that's done, would it be possible to control the Iphone? I believe that is also possible, since it's a GPRS phone instead of a CDMA phone.

Correct me if I'm wrong though.

I noticed with my bluetooth that every time I turn on the car I have to manually reconnect my phone (i.e. find devices, pair, etc etc). Is this a limitation with my dongle? my phone? my software? Is there a way around this?

My headset automatically connects to my phone as soon as I turn it on. I want this same functionality to happen when I turn on my car. How can I get that to work?

does anyone if it will connect automatically via the adhoc network once you get it setup or if you have to do it manually each time?

If you are referring to the iphone, I assume you can set it to automatically connect, much like you can a laptop. I suggest you call Apple's customer service for a definitive answer.

I would assume since this is an iphone hack on a jailbroken iphone that they would not be offering me any advice.

well,
why don't you just use the headphone jack and plug it into your audio in on your headunit.
Then you can talk and hear it over all your car speakers.
I use it and it works like a champ...

That's not a very seemless integration. I know the new CF RC3 supports headset profiles and I tested it and it DOES work with the iPhone. All it can do (for now) is make calls and such, you don't get access to your address book.

My problem is that CF runs a bit too slow on my carpc. Does anyone know if there's any other program that connects to the phone via the Headset Profile? If so, that should be compatible with ANY bluetooth phone.
