Extending a network

I'm sure I can't be the only one to have thought about this, but I don't have the foggiest how to search for info about it. So i'm sorry if it has been asked before.

What I would like to do is install a router in my car (Linksys with DD-WRT) to plug my Mini into (for wake-on-lan support) and wire it so it is always on. So that's nice and easy. I want to set the router up so that it extends my home wireless network. Again easy enough.

Here is the trick that I doubt was really thought of in the original 802.11 specs
What happens when I drive it out of range of my home network? Obviously I won't have access to anything outside the car, but:

1) Will it keep broadcasting as my home network?

2) If so, will all the static IPs and MAC filtering still be configured?

3) When I come back into range, will it re-establish the connection with my home network?

The idea is to put the Mini in a situation where I can send WOL packets to it to wake it and have it perform actions (start the car, turn on the heat/air, etc...) while sitting in the house. Additionally, if I ever get a WiFi enabled phone, it would be nice to use it to connect to the "car" network when i'm away from home to do the same thing.

This is mainly a feasibility study as the rest of it is just a pipe dream at the moment.

Thanks,
-dave
