Best file transfer method

I finally put a wifi adapter in my car, and i have an access point in my apt. The signal didn't reach my car, so i put another AP running as a repeater in my window sill. I get a great signal to at my car, and a decent connection between the two access points. When i get on the web in my car its pretty fast. About the same as on the wired network inside. The problem i'm having is that the some packets aren't going through, and using Windows File Share and a program called Directory Compare to transfer files,causes some errors. I will download a few songs from a computer on my network and get a message about the network resource not being available. When i browse the network share on my own, it works well.

Is there a better transfer method that keeps attempting to download if something drops? Would FTP be a better way to go? If so, what client would be good for this? Is it possible to download new files and skip existing??

I use Upd8, but I'm not sure what the suituation will be if it drops packets. It does skip existing files though.

Does it use the windows URLs? i.e., to compare files on a remote server, i have to map a network drive, and compare to the remote drive? i think its the protocol that's causing problem, not the software.

In any case... Upd8 looks nice and when i get this problem resolved, i'll use it!

It's best to map a drive but it can work with a full URL.

There used to be EZSync by ric355 that used to use ip ports to connect and transfer but that is no longer supported or available.

When I complete my install, I'm going to be running SyncToy in conjunction with a network share mapped to do my updates. It SHOULD work fine, and it's free.

What I need is a method that "Retries" if something doesn't copy.

BAsically you need something that will resume if a complete files was not xFerred.

That is something I am looking into adding to upd8.

Yeah, that'd be cool. I just fixed my problem. turns out it was just a poor signal. When i moved my repeater no more than 5 feet, it fixed the problem.

I'm def gonna check out Upd8. It's exactly what i need.

I use sync toy 2.0 (which is also capable of writing and erasing empty directories), I think it's pretty reliable (even if beta), specially with hidden and system files on the way.

Try using Windows Live Foldershare I use it to sync between my computers and it will sync whenever the network connection is up, synctoy requires you to setup a scheduled task or to run it every time.

I use the scheduled task option with Sync toy, reliability has been top notch. You also get the full history of updates in the windows log archieves (via control panel).
