Replace VZaccess Manager with Windows DUN connection

For those of you who use the VZAccess manager you may have noticed that the dialer provided by verizon has quite a bit of overhead (CPU) you can easily dump the VZ Dialer and use windows to manage to the BroadBand Connection.

Step1. UNINSTALL the VZAccess Manager

Step2. Remove the EVDO BroadBand Connection under the Network Settings

Step3. Create a new "Dial Up" use #777 for the phonenumber, there is no need to provide a Username/Password.

Step4. Connect

Yes it is that simple.

If you want to extend this to use a button in the DFX3 skin you can follow Dougw133's how to (Excellent BTW) over at this thread.

Isn't it easier to open VZAccess Manager, selecting tools/preferences, and then checking boxes Automatically connect and NDIS mode, then close VZAccess?

Automatically connects when you start the car (if plugged in), automatically disconnects, and you don't get the annoying "connection wizard" popup every time you get out of range.

danielkh, ahh yes cool. I guess the only reason I really wanted to dump the VZmanager is because I wanted a connect/disconnect ability from RR and it appeared to me that when you have the vzaccess manager installed you can not use the "SP Dialer" mentioned in the link I posted above.

Also does setting it to NDIS mode reduce the overhead that the VZManager imposes on the system?

VZAccess never runs. It creates and acts like a windows hookup (It shows up in your connections as NationalAccess - BroadbandAccess) but without the annoying popup. Guess you could control it with a button the same as you would with dialup.

Try it first! Your way may be better for the application.

hehe i am already using my way and I do not know why but when I use VZaccess manager and NDIS i get slower downloads than when I use my method.

~700Kbs WITH VZman

~990~Kbs with MY method.

Could just be a freaky thing but I did read on a few other forums that people have had the same result.

Cool.....I like the NDIS because I never have to worry about it. As soon as I start up the car, I'm online. But I can see where it might not work if you wanted to connect and disconnect. My first post really was a question.....could it work?
