Remote accessing PC to CarPC

Didn't find too much on this. And figured this would be the place to ask.

I'm trying to figure out the speed and possibility of "Live tuning" an EMS through the CarPC. What are the speeds I will be able to transfer data? If my tuner is logged in and accesses the EMS will he able to see "live", with a slight delay? Significant delay?

Reason for asking...I am participating in a cross country rally in 2 weeks and want to know if he'll be able to make modifications to tuning maps while seeing whats going on for different events and conditions? Or will he able to pull data log files only after I've made them through the CarPC? The car is highly modified and the EMS (Autronic SM-4) has a direct connection through the CarPC for EMS tuning without a laptop.

Ill be using the new verizon broadband wireless USB727 and DSL from the land line. Will a simple program like myPC work? Or is there something better?

Use VNC. If you connect wirelessly, the delay won't be too bad.

Very possible mate, I know of the same thing that was recently accomplished on a Power FC by a user on SAU (Guilt-Toy).
Tuner was in Australia, car in Georgia.

Awesome..thanks for the input guys. Im running a built motor APS Single Turbo Nissan 350Z. I won't need it too often but mainly when we're doing the Bonneville Salt Flats top speed runs.

Here's the rally info if you guys want to follow and there will be a 6 episode show on Speed Channel of the trip this fall. Ill let u know how this comes out and keep you updated. www.AKARally.com

VNC? Is that a different version of a "Go To My PC" type program? Sorry for all the questions...Im a car builder and tuner..not really a computer guy..so my knowledge is pretty limited on this.

I'm not sure on the availability of hardware/software for the Nissan, but I have HPTuners installed on my CarPC and am able to log/tune the EMS(ECU) for a number of GM and Ford cars. Can do real time tuning to a number of the tables with a custom OS on the cars EMS(ECU)

Might look around some of the Nissan forums to see if there is something similar available for them

Good luck

Already have the software. The car is running an aftermarket stand alone EMS (Autronic SM-4). We have all the tuning software and it's on the PC. Just trying to see if you can remotely access and tune from abroad if necessary? I will be on the Bonneville Salt Flats...my tuner will be in VA.

I know it's been done at racetracks on Formula cars but they need an exteremly fast response so they have private connections through a different type of network (don't know what it's called)

To be honest I don't need that... a delay will be fine as long as it's not too much. The overall tune is done...the minor tweaking from logging and viewing doesn't necessitate instant responses to EMS parameters.

Just trying to get it set-up.

If you have go to my PC then use it. VNC is free, though. You can Google it.

BAF is on a distinguished road
If it's running XP Pro, use MS Remote Desktop. It's so much faster/better than VNC.

i have a suggestion... i use logmein.com it's free and i get no lag. the other thing i did was i shared the E: (where i have my media) and mapped it on my laptop or home for easy file transfer. if you dont want to install software for remote access you should do a little research on "remote desktop connection" if you need help with the setup lmk..

hope it works for you.
