Hello,

I have a Realtek 8185 WiFi adapter in my car pc. I am having a difficult time connecting to unsecured and or secured WiFi access points. They WiFi access points will list under the Windows XP WiFi network list but when I double click it shows a dialog "Waiting on the network..." then it does not connect. The signal is adequate so I think this is a driver and or software issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Is their a way in Windows XP (SP3) I could diagnose this myself ?

This is the last hurdle on my project. Would be great to overcome it.

What driver are you using for the adapter?
Do you have any firewall/antivirus software installed on this PC?

Well truth be told the card is branded Trendnet but the chipset it uses is the Realtek 8185. The Realtek driver is 100% compatible. I have the latest driver installed ( as of 3/09 I beleive ). I have completly disabled any anti-virus and or firewall software on the machine. What is frustrating is the Windows XP WiFi Zero Conf is not telling me anything specific as why it could not connect etc.

Did you use a custom XP disc? Did you do any modification to XP prior to installation? nLite or otherwise?

What version of Windows was installed from the disc, was it SP3, SP2, Neither?

I think I had the same issue with my Realtek WiFi adaptor. I wound up getting it to work by using the Realtek supplied configuration utility; zero-conf would not work for me.

No I used just a plain jane Windows XP SP3 install disc. I am going to try the RealTek zero-conf utility. I post my results...
