I love me some 5Ghz 802.11N

Just upgraded my router and my server to N. I am getting 270mbps connection on my server which is pretty far away, and 150mbps on my laptop which I didnt even know supported 5ghz or N for that matter.

And the router has simultaneous dual band so the rest of the computers as well as my gaming consoles are still connected just fine.

If this is the future, I like it.

Dual band is definitely the way to go. Which router did you get?

Linksys/Cisco WRT610N and a matching WMP600N adapter

So far I only had some interference issues on ch6 of 2.4ghz, so I switched it and everything is good.

I've read bad things about Linksys but their stuff always has worked the best for me and lasts forever. Was looking at WRT600N but the newer versions like the 610 with the internal antennas look nice and sleek.

I'm jealous!

I recently upgraded to wireless N too, it's awesome. I can keep all my HD movies on my Windows Home Server and stream it wirelessless to my laptop, then to the home theatre with no stuttering. Very impressed...it's faster than standard 100mbps ethernet.

Out of curiousity, how come your server is connected wirelessly? Wouldnt it be better to have a wired connected to the router, such as gigabit?

I too have been reading some bad things about them recently. But I replaced my version 2 WRT54G that was at least 5 years old running 24/7. I am thinking since Linksys is one of the big names it is suffering from idiots not knowing what they are doing and writing bad reviews.

I was afraid of the internal antennaes vs. the big dipoles on my old one. The reception is about equal in my testing, but faster!

It's connected wirelessly because my server is a huge full tower located in the basement (my old bedroom), but the cable feed comes in next to the 2 satellites on the main floor. Then the router is connected by wire to the mediaPC and the TV itself (Samsung internet enabled tv ) and of course the modem. So to run a wire which I did a few years ago for testing/configuration it was 150ft' long and ran through the living room down the stairs, and across the game room... Just not practical for me but with N, it is now faster than wired and I think plenty sufficient for a personal/developement/light business server.
