Awesome
I've had sprint for years and never knew about this! To think of all those wasted hours sitting in a car waiting for my GF or something that could have been spent surfing the net....

I believe your cell has Bluetooth. If so, why don't you just get a BT dongle. You should have no problems connecting it that way.

WHen I try to connect using the previous phone (sanyo 8100) connections it gives me a "error 680- no dial tone" message. The #777 worked with my old phone but I'm having trouble get the Katana phone to work.
Any suggestions?
Are you paying the $39.99/mo for phone as a modem? If not you might also get a "Could not verify Username and Password" error, even when you have the right info put in the system.
As a Sprint Employee, I know first hand that the phones will not allow data access through DUN profile, or USB cable without the PAM (phone as a modem) SOC (Service Order Code) on the account.
The phone has actually a few "usernames" one for data access to the phone (vision/powervision), one for picture-mail (@pm.sprint.com), one for phone as a modem (PAM Basic), etc. The billing system has to enable each username for each feature to work. The only way the username becomes active is with the PAM ($39.99, $49.99) plan on the account.
If you use the NAI hack listed on sprintusers.com you may actually be able to use the vision/powervision password for data access, but may not be for long. Sprint will be able to monitor usage, and excessive use will trigger an audit, and the usage will be analyzed. If you are found to be using PAM without paying for it, Sprint has the right to backdate the plan usage to the beginning, or cancel your account for misuse of services.
See here:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1183...ats_news&apl=y
These customers were costing Sprint money, and Sprint decided to shut them down. If you are found to be using the service other than what is described in the Terms and Conditions, you can be cancelled and forced to pay the $200 fee. This happened for the people using Free Roaming excessively, so don't expect to be excluded because you have the data plan. You may save $25/month for a few months, but when you are forced to pay $200, you may be sorry you didn't do it the legal way.
A better solution:
Sierra 595 USB mobile broadband modem. It allows a usb connection, broadband speeds, and limited GPS connectivity (meaning location only, but no turn by turn.)
I'm not trying to squash anyone's hopes or anything, just trying to give a fair warning about what is possible. You may end up paying more for it!

Samsung a900 and Razr V3m (Sprint)
My sister and i are on the same account. we both have power vision witch is unlimited(i think). I can get the a900 to work with the #777 after disabling the NAI. After she washed my a900 in the washing machine i got a V3m. Looked for some tricks and couldn't get it to work. i called support and eventually got to advanced support. i told him straight up what i did with the a900 and if i could do the same thing. the guy was really cool he wasn't trying to push the data plan on me because he knew i was a cheap a$$. but he told me that the newer phones it is not possible. so im going to change the numbers so i have the (older) a900 and my sister (who wants a new phone anyways) the Razr V3m. i wish i could use the internet connection on the phone any way i want but sprint big wigs need more money i guess they probably deserve it
Working on a CarPC will post pictures when i start the install

Its funny how you say "as a sprint employee" just because you work there that does not make you an expert and as for your unfounded comment it is very very wrong. I am a sprint customer and my phone has niether PAM or SOC on the account and i change my ringtones daily using an old usb cable that i spliced together. With the proper software on your pc any and YES I MEAN ANY cell phone that has any form of internet access whatsoever can be used this way. I was using the wireless connection to upload ringtones for free years ago (i have never paid for data plans) it is a waste of your money. Just "edit" the firmware to use your isp info instead of connecting to sprint internet. Very simple process. so..... As a NONSprint Employee i know first hand that you are wrong because i have done it and have been doing it for several years now. Have a nice Day.

As a sprint employee that has seen many a sad cheater in the store, here's fair warning:
If you use the internet access without paying for the proper services you can and will be responsible for any and all data access charges and can be back dated to the beginning of your contract if you are found to be using the phone in a way that it was not designed for or that you haven't set up in your plan. I've been selling sprint for 5 years now. Sprint used to allow PAM access without needing the PAM code, but that was back when we just sold wireless web, at a per minute charge. Once Vision was rolled out, it was sort of looked over and most that were using it minimally got away with it for a while, others received letters like the one below. There were MANY MANY people who came in to my store with bills over hundreds of dollars for back dated charges. Guess what? they had to pay it or allow the account sent to collections and most of them were cancelled and had to pay the cancellation fees. ABSOLUTELY none of them were able to settle it in or out of court. Sprint won EVERY SINGLE case regarding this, since it says specifically in the Terms and Conditions about these charges.
Here's an example of letters that were sent to these customers:
Quote:
Dear Firstname Lastname:
A recent review of your Sprint PCS Account noted an unusually large
amount of data usage with your Sprint PCS Phone. In our experience
usage of this level is typically the result of using the phone as a
modem. Using your Sprint PCS Phone as a modem in connection with any
other device (computers, etc) is strictly prohibited under the terms of
your unlimited Sprint PCS Visions Plan. To the extent you wish to
continue to use your Sprint PCS Phone as a modem, you will need to
change your Sprint PCS Vision Plan. Sprint offers a number of data-only
plans, which are similar to our voice plans, whereby you are allotted a
certain number of megabytes for a monthly recurring charge. These data
plans are in addition to the voice calling plan that you have on your
phone. Please note that continuing to use your Sprint PCS Phone as a
modem on your current unlimited Sprint PCS Vision Plan is not an option
and may result in cancellation of your Sprint PCS Vision Service. To
find out more about our data-only plans, please visit a Sprint Store or
contact Sprint at 1-888-211-4727 today. We look forward to working with
you to set you up on a plan to serve your wireless data needs. We
apologize for any confusion and thank you for your continued business,
Sprint Customer Service
Here's straight from the legally binding Terms and Conditions set forth by Sprint Which you signed when you set up your account:
Quote:
Except with phone-as-modem plans, you may not use a phone (including a Bluetooth phone) on a plan with unlimited Vision/Power Vision as a modem in connection with a computer, PDA, or similar device. We reserve the right to deny or terminate service without notice for any misuse. Availability of downloadable or streaming content is subject to change.
this is taken from the website and you can read the entire t's and c's here:
http://nextelonline.nextel.com/en/le...?id16=warranty
So in summary, if you are getting away with it now, cool, good for you, you cheating a-hole. You will get caught soon, and you will be VERY sorry when it happens. If you don't get caught, karma will catch up to you and bad things will happen.
It's best to live life honestly and you will be rewarded for it.
By the way, can the mods remove anything that refers to stealing or hacking internet service as it's illegal and a violation of the forum rules?

*continues using data service*
I have been using sprint for years now without any issues...
But then again I don't download movies all day long with it either.
Thanks for posting the relevant portions of the TOS though.

I'm just really tired of people that come into the store *****ing about the contract or bill or overage charges because they didn't read the TOS or even look at what it says on the bill, all wireless companies explain the crap that shows up on the bill. You either signed a copy of it, or your voice was recorded when you accepted the agreement.
WHEN, (not if, when) you get charged, please don't go to the store or call customer service, you have been warned and are now aware of the charges. Just pay the bill and do the right thing.
Also, you must be really good role models; teaching young children it's ok to cheat, steal and misrepresent as long as you benefit from it, without regard to the consequences that are possible and will occur. Regardless of how much you think wireless service is a rip off, you have the right as a consumer to shop around and find the best price, features etc. So if you want to continue stealing things, go right ahead. You might as well splice into someone else's cable connection, or shoot, why not just run extension cords from the neighbors' outlets and power all your stuff while they foot the bill?
Grow up, pay for what you use and do things right.

Dude, it's no use. I've beat my head against the legal/illegal wall on this forum many many times. They just won't listen.

Ditto! Same configuration... If I can get to go to the next Florida meet, we can compare speeds.
