I have just set this up....it works....but its not fast at all. I have it set up as a DUN connection using #777.

When i try to load IE, it takes 20-30 seconds for google to pop up, and forever to load any other website. AIM seems to work pretty well though.

Any suggestions as to how I may solve this slowness? It says I am connecting at 115.4kpbs

I used to use it on my laptop a year ago. I used that Connection software, and I had a Samsung N400 phone connected by 2 USB cables to the computer. It worked great, It averaged 5-13KB/s. I never got charged either.

at the speed of sprint

i have sprint and the usb and the snap dialer disc, i use a samsung vga1000. i'm not versed on speed and numbers but when i go on-line using the #777 dial-up number i swear my pages load in about 5-10 seconds. at about 7:00 in the morning it's even faster. i don't know if the size of my laptop has anything to do with it, it's dang huge-and fast. i live in southern california, i don't know if that means anything?

Has anyone tried this lately? I tried dialing #777 from my phone and get a message indicating that the code was invalid.

just used mine today. you dont dial #777 from the phone - you set up a dial up networking connection with #777 as the phone number - so the computer dials it, not you.

My problem in doing this is the connection keeps getting lost and I have to power cycle the phone to get it working again. Anyone else have this issue?

Ok I've set up a constant ping and this seems to have solved my connectivity problem. The question I have now is how do I establish this as an external app inside media engine. I was using media engine as my shell, but it won't allow me to access the desktop so I have to set this up as an external app and I'm having trouble figuring out how to do this.

my sanyo 8200 connects to the internet on the sprint network with like 250kbps. i can download files and stuff at around 30k most of the time. There is a latency tho. but its still fast.

Very simple, ill go over all the main details.
With verizon, if you dont pay the 80$/month unlimited data fee, then it pulls from your minutes. If you have a promo voice plan, such as night/weekend unlimited, then, any time at night or weekend, it isnt "costing" you minutes.
To setup in verizon:
Get data cable and usb drivers for your phone (wont wakl you through this)
Create a dial up networking connection (DUN) in the control panel
select the (usually) Cruitel Packet Driver modem from your modem list (if you have more than one modem isntalled)
username: 10digitnumber@vzw3g.com(ie, 555-555-5555, no - tho)
pw: vzw3g (either that pw, or vzw cant remember)
connect to phone : #777
THis will connect you to Verizon Wireless 1xRTTT network, i have never gotten speeds at less than 235.kbps. IF the connection is idle, the phone will go into a :suspend: mode, where it will drop the data connection, and then re-establish it automatically if internet access is needed (such as refreshing webpage, going to different URL, etc). This is an actual FEATURE of your phone, because when you are using the data service, if someone attempts to call you it goes straight to voicemail.

Sprint:
If you do not have vision service, it pulls from your monthly alotment of minutes, once again, if you have promo plans such as unlimited night/weekend, no additional charges are incurred. If you are using it during peak time, then it does eat away at your voice minutes. If you DO have vision service (usually 15$/mnth) your data services are unlimited.
Get data cable and install drivers
create a dial up network
no username/pw is required with sprint
dial the number #777

I have yet to hear of anyone being "disconnected" or blocked from using webservices via any carrier for "abuse". I pull about 3gigs a month from verizon during off peak hours, not once have i noticed a speed decrease, received warning letters or otherwise.

For more information, you can reply to this thread or PM me or AOL IM me at crashp3. Another great source of information is www.howardforums.com

ps: if anyone here has any experience setting up the fraker LCD controller with a sharp 10.4" lcd, pleaes contact me, i need some help.

One thing to correct here. For sprint if you don't have vision you aren't charged minutes when using there web services if you have an updated phone...i.e. a 3g phone. 2g phones do use minutes though. Anyways if you have a 3g phone and no vision sprint will charge you for each kb downloaded through the phone.

I bought my data cable from ebay. I got it and a cable charger in the same auction for a total of 10 bux shipped. Cable worked with very little effort. Just installed sanyo drivers and I was on my way. I have an 8100 btw.
