thanks for the suggestions, this gets me started.. I may just pay the 14.95. But I am going to see if I can find one that doesn't charge the phone (so if I use it with regular laptop it will last longer). Thanks!

i got billed

i got my first bill from sprint and i got charged 39 cents a minute because i used my phone as a modem. I have the unlimited vision plan but i usee #777 and sprint can tell the difference, so i got charged. but it's cool because the phone will only connect to get a page or refresh so hours on line only translated to about $4.00 in charges. if i use my sprint pcs user name and password, would that fool them so i don't pay. i have the usb cable and everything. They know though, they know.

This is very untrue. If it is true you're the first of thousands. Simple common sense will refute what you're saying. If you're only using the data side of the phone why would they charge you airtime minutes? If you have a vision enabled phone you will see that when you connect from your computer with it as a modem there is nothing voice call related on the screen just info referencing the data connection. So unless you are still on a wireless web plan I call BS. For those that want more info on www.sprintusers.com/forum.

i did get billed

i didn't say it was minutes overusage i meant that they charged me 39 cents a minute for data over usage. and when i log on with my snapdialer software and usb cable it dials #777 so it doesn't log onto sprints internet with my username and password as if it does when i browse the web on my phone with my phone, dude change your attitude, i'm merely stating what my bill looks like don't call me b.s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if there's a way to aviod this let me know, maybe i don't even need the snapdialer software, i don't know.

ring it up

exactly, its a bummer but i don,t mind to much. I wonder when i use that software if i could log in with my sprint username and password if it would mimic what the phone does and they would then only see a spike in usage as opposed to knowing i'm using it as a modem. But let me say this they never told me i couldn't use it, in fact they didn't care but that they would charge me. I have to say i use my phone as a modem a whole, whole, whole lot. Hours and hours and poop loads of data transfer. and it worked out to about four dollars, so really i have no complaints.

Ok now that makes a lot more sense. If you use this as a constant and consistent internet connection yeah they know you're using it as a modem, but I can assure you that they cannot tell when you are or are not using it as a modem, if that makes sense. What I'm saying is if I connect right now via my phone or via my computer they have no way of telling which one I'm using. Now if I set up an Imesh account and start dl'ing songs and movies they have some idea that I really wouldn't be transferring that much data just for functions of the phone. Still I really can't see how they can charge you if you have unlimited vision. Keyword there is unlimited and if they couldn't prove to me when I was using it as a modem I'd be hard pressed to pay them jack unless of course it was only $4 one time for using the phone as my regular internet connection.

@ D-rob:As far as my 'tude' remember these are words and this is e-communication. I had no attitude. Sprint has ppl looking on msg boards and they try little stuff where they'll try to scare ppl into not using their phones as modems although use is widespread and even though they sell this feature when selling phones and plans. I've been using my vision for 5 months with no extra charges, of course I don't use mine much at all. I may connect every other day and only to load email or bid on something on ebay. I'm a much nicer guy than I project sometimes so don't take it as I say you're bs'ing take it as kids sitting around and me saying prove it.

@Hum: How much do you use your vision via your computer?

Also if others that use this tactic could chime in it'll give us more of a guage of if Sprint is really charging.

awsome

i thought of that after i wrote it, i'm sure sprint tries everything to score. Yes i use mine a lot, it's cool how the phone disconnects and connects instantly, i think sprint rounds up so sometimes it only has to connect for an instant to pull up a page, therefore i don't get charged. I have a laptop that is a huge bad boy. 60 gig hd at 7200 rpms, 1024 megs of ram, 128mgb video card dvd burner etc. and a ht 3.2gig processor, i'm very computer illiterate, so i don't know what part of all that info helps me when i connect but dang it connects fast. veryt fast, 30 second video clip downloads in about 45 seconds. of course not like when i'm at home and using my lynksis wireless access. i would love to fool sprint completely and log in as the "phone" so they would never know. Thanks.

I have unlimited vision and do not get billed for usage - at least I haven't yet.....

I did get billed at roughly .39 cents a minute before adding unlimited vision.....

I have never tried connecting without my username though......
I bought my cable at www.3gcables.com

Just my experience....

I run a web development company so I use mine very often I would say about 8-20 hrs a week. I use the snap dialer cable purchased at best buy. I agree with you though I don’t understand how unlimited can have a limit but legally I guess they have deeper pockets then I do, I mean that’s like kicking the fat guy out of the all you can eat buffet its just not right

Question sprinty want chargee

if you have an idea what i mean, hum, using snapdialer is there a way to put your user idea in and password, like when you log on with the phone itself and it says on the screen, connecting as and your sprint name. if that could work than all sprint would have is the massive amount of usage but they could not tell if your using your phone as an external modem. I travel the five south counties of southern california every day so internet is important for me and my job, coverage is good so i can't complain. the other thing was when everybody was saying sprint kicks them off or tells them not to do this, use phone as modem, that doesn't make sense, cause all sprint has to do is charge, like they do me, and dang! new money, right? anywho anything is cheaper than there 80 dollar a month for there card. thanks again.

D-rob I think you're on the wrong track here. The id and password doesn't matter. They can't tell when you're on the phone using vision or using the phone as a modem. If they could they would have deterred you from using it a long time ago by billing you for every kb of data that you download when you use the phone as a modem.
BTW nice ride.

I have Sprint PCS vision on 2 phones with unlimited PCS vision. This service is really unlimited. They ask that you use the Sprint PCS vision dialer software that is downloadable from their website to make your connection instead of dialing #777. But they have told me on more then one occasion its unlimited and I've been on it for 2+ hours at a time over and over without issue. Just call sprint and ask them (Can I use my PCS vision as much as I want on my laptop using your dialer software) they will say 'YES'.
