Free net w/ PCMCIA card
I already have the 20mb/$40 a month activated (which is a complete rip off), if I discontinue that and activate the Vision plan, is it somehow possible to use the PCMCIA I have and use the free #777 method? Thx, you all ROCK.

I have a Sanyo 8200 Phone that works awesome with Sprint. I have had this for about a 8 months, and had the 8100 before that. Have used it mulitple times on travel with my laptop, and get great speeds. The only problem that I had was trying to upload an 18mb file up to our FTP site at work, this ate the battery up and didn't ever transfer fully, so I had to go find a WIFI network to get the file up. Any other size files that I did, that were no where this large, worked great.
I get about 30kb down, with it showing connetion speeds of about 255kb.

My VM4500 get's power through the USB while connected. Does the 8200 not do this?

Sprint hack
If you guys need help let me know what kind of sprint phone you have. I have an archive of most of the drivers. You dont need any special software. Also have software to pull contacts out of old phones and drop them into new phones. All thats required is a data cable. Snag one off ebay or if you dont care just go to your local radio shack and get one. Holla if you have questions.

i concur with everyone who said you cant use a sprint vision phone as a modem for a pc, whether at home or in a car
i called sprint to check for myself
sprint vision unlimited allows for unlimited web access on your phone ONLY...
you get charged use for modem and if they find out they will terminate your contract
i had my CS check with his super and he confirmed, w/the part about termination & strong recommendations against it

Sprint Connection Speed
My sprint phone connects up with the usb to my laptop at like 230 kbps. I use it quite a bit for emergency's or to get me email when i'm traveling, and I havnt been repremanded by sprint yet.

I just left the sprint store, and got almost the same answer. I went in looking for a data cable, and they told me they no longer sell them or will make them again. So I asked him if you are telling me that data connection on the bottom of this phone and every other phone you sell is useless? And he said yes. I have tried already with a bluetooth sprint phone and it worked, but returned the phone because it didn't work with phone control.
Anyway, he told me they may not catch it now, but they are tracking it and will eventually charge you within a few months at 2 cents per megabyte.
He told me the reason why is because they are only pushing there laptop cards and the monthly charge for that. And he told me that I could buy a conversion from CompUSA from a card to either a USB or something else I can use on a real computer. He seemed to know exactly what he was talking about, so watch your usage if your not already. I don't know exactly how well they track it or watch it, or plan to charge you.
good luck

can I get some more info on how to set this up with winxp dial up. I also have a Sanyo 8200. Not having to install any 3rd party software sounds like the way I want to go. I will be bidding on a cable on ebay now. any help would be appreciated.
Edit: I purchased this item: Ebay link
Should I be able to plug it in and have it automatically be recognized?

I say for those scared or worried about the usage...just don't use it.
For all others, as you see I've been here a while and even posted in this thread a while back and I'm still using my phone as a modem and I still haven't been charged for it. The key is you don't want to download from Kazza and isht like that. Use it for web surfing and checking email. That's it.
As far as cables, screw sprint you can get them off ebay dirt cheap.
@pousevrika--You need to get the driver for your phone. DCXMan says he has access to those in post #80 or you can try to search for them on sprintusers.com's forum, sprintpcs.com or sanyo's website. It should be somewhere on sanyo's website. Once you have the driver you should be able to plug and unplug the phone w/o issue. Then just set up the dial-up network to dial #777 w/o a username or password and you're golden. You'll want to set up a constant ping because the connection will end every few minutes otherwise.

Oh believe me, I wasn't scared of it, just giving a heads up. I still plan on using it. The amount of money he said they "might" charge is small if your not using it for the things you mentioned. If they did charge you, it would be cheaper then going over your minutes or that damn 411 charge. I downloaded the sbc yellow pages onto my carpc to take care of that problem.

anyone have a direct link to the PCS dialer software?
Also, can anyone describe the ability to use the phone as a "network" rather then a "modem", also with what software that is needed for this?

Sent you a pm, someone gave me a link to get online without having to dial up with certain phones. You have to have PCS Vision. I dont' know if this is the software you want, but it connects you to the internet when you plug your phone into the USB cable. This came from soemone that has been doing it for awhile, but I downloaded the software and it works for specific phones.
