Agreed, it looks like they have updated their site. I cant seem to find any other information on the WUSB11 2.8 modifications.

If others could re-post information in regards to this mod that'd be great.

You know, I did something similar to mine recently and found no difference in signal strength between the original antenna, a 5.5db gain antenna, and NO ANTENNA AT ALL. Seriously, I just left it off and the signal strength is the same... Very strange...

I moded my USB G Linksys 4 months ago.

I found that I needed USB 2.0 to make it faster. Not a bigger antenna....

The antenna helps, but USB 2.0 is more important I think.

Yea i got the USB 2.0 slot but still wondering about the installation of the upgraded antenna like how many db is to much and why wouldnt the one i baught work. I mean i thought i did everything right.

I basically had the same idea to upgrade the antenna so i searched and found your bright idea (Leslie). Anyways the antenna i baught from compusa the brand is also compusa. 6dbi Antenna. Here some pics. Oh yea and this is for home network use on the PC.

Only problem is it doesnt recognize no networks not even the one i connected with when i had the stock antenna.
Possible problems
1. Connection of antenna might not be one with chip.
2. Antenna to powerful for chip. (might need an a small amplifier for antenna.)
3. Solder could be bad.

SOMEONE, ANYONE, HELP....ADVICE !

Well, my Linksys G USB is a earlier model than yours probably.

Few things I noticed...
Did you look at the stock antenna and see what it was connected to?
The antenna has a inner conductor and a shielding to protect the signal.
Looks like you just soldered the inner wire (Gold connector) to the baord. Also the gold connector does not help soldering, if anything it makes it harder to solder to.
You need to attach the outside braid (sheilding of the antenna wire) to some ground onthe board. I would use the same antennna spots the stock antenna used.

If you didn't use the gold connector, then you wouldn't have a Mount Everest of solder on the board.

There is no reason to use silver solder for this application. Just use no clean solder with a little no clean flux and you will be fine. The silver solder has a higher melting point and will probably cause you to mess up the board.

no clean is available from most electronics shops. You don't need to clean the board afterwards. Otherwise, you could use regular solder and wash the board under hot water. Since you don't know if the parts on the board are sealed, I would go with no clean

Well i actually thought that the solder worked as a conductor of electricity because it was metal..but ill go head and chop the little mountain off and clean it all up see what i can pull off. Thanks for the feedback guys ... keep ya updated.

Check www.wlanparts.com for other options as well (as far as pigtails, etc). I buy a lot of parts from them. They have been good to me.

I will second the comment on the soldering...... as well as the shield. Grounding is just as important in this application as it would be for any other electronic application. If you mess that board up too bad, I may have an extra lying around.....er wait it is probably a "b" not a "g"....

I would look into one of the wireless cards that allows for an external connector. My netgear USB card (like a microdrive) allows for an external anntena(once you crack it open), so do the SMC PCMCIA cards.... they will output 200mW.

If you have a way to make it work, well worth it.
