hmm, it's difficult to measure. One connection which previously was 5,5 MBit is now 18 MBit. But I found speed to be weather-dependant and I'm not sure about the quality of my antenna (was a cheap one and makes strange noises if you touch it).

Comparing speed under the same conditions is not possible without another unmodified WUSB54G.

Wireless Channel will have alot to do with the signal type and strength. Channel 6 is usualy default, followed by 1 and 11 for the least interferance.

Mirrors, reflective surfaces, and other radio waves will affect your wireless signal.

Dude, I'm not trying to crap on your soldering skills, but that's just nasty! Remember, with wifi and bluetooth, we're using microwave frequencies! You can't just solder on a clothes hanger like on a car! I attached a pic to help. Any electronics solder will do. You can also cut off the gold connector, you really don't need it, it will also help make it a bit easier to solder the inner conductor.

Hey, here's a pretty good example of what it should look like after you're done. If you have a CompUSA close by they sell the Hawking equipment. Some of their external antenna's come with pigtails. Good quick way to get these kind of connectors in a hurry. Their antenna's aren't too bad either.

Ok, just to report back:

now I got a 14dBi directional panel antenna - still a cheap one from ebay - but this time I really see a big difference. I can see a lot more networks around and the connections to the previously available networks are faster and more reliable.
