Without looking back through the thread (all 14 pages of it) I remember someone saying he got it to work with the prepaid stuff for no charge.... or did this change?

Thanks for the info.

Ya, I am a gran dad, so it is 2.99

Perhaps that is reason that I can't get to certain sites, because they are HTTPS. I never thought of that. Most of the places I wanna go while mobile are not secure anyway.

Don't think so, except mine says it is connected at just 112k.

He said so. Talking with tmobile tech on the phone it sounds like the proxy server might have worked at some point for prepaid people.

I have asked him to verify that things still work and he has not PM'ed me back. With prepaid, I am able to connnect and browse through all sites listed in *my* version of tzones (limited list of links) through a wap browser though my PC.

Whenenver I try and access a site that is outside of the list of links I get a WML page back that says "not in plan".

So, it would seem to me that things are working right and that "to go" customers get a different set of proxy rules.

I dunno...this is all guess work of course.

hmmm... I wish that rafster would reply again. I think he holds the holy grail to this "free" wireless.

Perhaps. I've done a good amount of digging on howard forums and have not heard of people having any more success that what I've described.

Of course remember that this is not free by any means. Seems to me that you need to put 100 dollars on the card to keep your minutes for a year. Then 10 dollars after that. So you are looking at 7-8 dollars a month, for the first year - which as we all know would be a great deal, but certainly not free.

Idealy, I would switch over to t-mo and get the 5 (3 perhaps) dollar plan. Unfortunately, I'm not out of contract nor does t-mo have the best looking coverage maps out there.

Sigh...

I like your math, however, if you keep the card for longer then a year, say perhaps 2 or 3 years, then you can divide 110 by 24, or 120 by 36. At 3 years, it is just 3 dollars per month. I will probably do that, since I just switched to Cingular, but find the cingular data plans to suck. For less then half the price of Cingular, I can get unlimited, EDGE speed (I live in SoCal, so that helps) with a t-mo prepaid. Now all I got to do is get rid of my T-Mo V600 and get an edge capable phone, and a prepaid card, and away I go.

As for confirmation it still works, just wait for the Rafster to come on. He usually gets on in the Afternoon. You can also hit him up on AIM and MSN, just check his sig.

What are some of the sites you can connect to? Just a question. I mean if I can make a link page then that would be cool.

Ok of course, once you extend the time period in question past a year, things get cheaper on average. I'm not exactly sure how much money is required to keep the ball rolling after the initial 100 dollars, so I didn't want to actually calculate that.

My point was simply that it is not free - but it is relatively cheap.

basically
ABC news
CNN news (mobile version)
ESPN via go.com
Various tmobile account pages
a few others.

Remember these are all WML documents - as long as you only care about those sites you could make a WML document and load that in a WML browser. Generic HTML access is not going to fly AFAIK.

XPOST

CID 1,2,3 or 4 on Dialup SE-T610 ???
I just replaced my Sony Ericsson T610 that had busted due to going swimming
My previous T616 was an unlocked phone (previously Cingular)and when I set up the dialup number for use over bluetooth in the car and my PocketPC I used CID #3 ( *99***3# ). Oh, I have T-Mobile as a provider.
It worked fine and when using the proxy IP and port 8080, I was able to use my $3.99 T-Zones for internet without additional charges.

When I got this new phone, it was a branded T-Mobile phone and went to T-Mobile site and had the settings for everything sent to the phone.
OK, thats the background info.......

Now, I have multiple ways to get a connection. I am wondering if one is better than another and which one will not charge me for going over the data limit.
By sellecting " Connectivity - Data Comm - Data Accounts " this is what shows up under each data account :
TZones - CID = 1
TZones GPRS - CID =2
Picture Messaging - CID = 3
T-Mobile Internet - CID = 4

I am wondering if the " T-Mobile Internet " isn't left over from the previous owner, as I did not have that on the unlocked Cingular phone.

Does anyone have the same type of setup and can sled some light on this ???

Thanks
Don

If anyone is interested, the $10 T-mobile to go cards @ Target are on sale for $9. That means 9 cents a minute.

Peace,

Rafster

Rafster, can you still get Tmo-to-go free internet to work? A few of us have been wondering if you can confirm a post made a few weeks ago that seemed to indicate as such.

Thanks,Chris

Well, this is what I have found out.

It seems to only work with Smartphones (PDA Phones and Windows Mobile Phones)

There's just somthing special about the modems on these puppies that lets you use the GPRS on them.

Me and some other people on HoFo are working on something for all you guys out there w/o smartphones.

Peace,

Rafster
