Sony ericssons work great ( T610,T616,&637 ) ..
Mines a T610 and I just have it dial the phone ( *99***3# ) which connects to the internet.
I set " Internet Preferences " on the computer ( both IE & Firefox linked ) to use a proxy server with IP & Port 8080
simple, no other software needed
Don,
I assume your talking about using DUN to dial up the GPRS correct? I should be able just dial *99***3# from the phone and here the modem handshaking correct? If so there is a problem because the phone just sends back "command error". Are the any specific settings that I need put in the phone?

I tried that. No joy. Do you have a simple folder layout? I have words of sub folders I sort mail into. It seems like Outlook never finishes the initial 'work out what to sync step.

Wonder what's causing that, bad area or reception?
I don't think it's reception. Probably just a bad area.

Looks like you have plenty of sub-folders. Mine never seems to get past 'synchronizing hierarchy'.

there is no modem handshake ..
just like you don't hear a dial tone on DSL ... it's actually on all the time.
it just sends the *99***3# down the line to say " hey wake up, I need some bandwidth "

*99*# works for my Samsung S105.
*99***3# gives me an AT command error.

So basically...
Tmobile originally had port 80 and a few others like email opened without having any kind of t-zones or internet plan.
But then in October they blocked port 80 for anyone that had either no t-zones, 4.99, or 9.99 plans. So now they expect you to buy the 19.99 plan ontop of your voice plan if you want to be able to use non-wap HTTP WAN (port 80).
So if you just have the voice plan, without any T-Zones, what ports are still open to WAN? I read somewhere that email ports are still enabled.
Can anyone verify this?

Does this still work for t-mobile?
If so, which plans? (national or regional)
And what kind of access? (wap only? or full internet?)
Basically I am thinking of getting a phone (just started driving) and I want to have internet access in my carputer (in progress.) I want more than wap only sites, so I need to know if I should get the $20/mo plan for internet, or use this gprs hack.

The way I understand it,
T-Mobile has disabled regular internet HTTP surfing (port 80) which was fully accessable on all plans for free before.
So now you have 2 options:
-Buy the 4.99 T-Zones plan (ontop of your contract) and setup a proxy for surfing internet. Port 80 is blocked, but you can setup a proxy on the mail server ports since they are still available.
-Buy the 19.99 internet plan (ontop of your contract), and have unrestricted GPRS internet like before.
If any of this is wrong please correct me.

What is the mail server port number?

the proxy belongs to t-mobile I believe..
I have the 2.99 T-Zones and works like a champ still and has not showed anything on my bill..
The only pain is having to go into settings and change from a proxy type connection when I have a WiFi connection.. On the PocketPC, it has separate settings for bluetooth, so it's automatic.
