money to spend to cruise the internet

i've thought about setups with a carputer and i feel all i really want is good internet access. i've got navigation 5.1 dts and dd. ive got x-box and PS2 and five monitors in my tahoe. what would be the simplest way to go online and read e-mail use outlook, go to websites etc. money isn't the issue just simplicity. i posted this in another topic but this may be the better place. i don't even know where to start with the carputer basics. i've got nothing but i want to somewhat integrate a carputer into my 10,000.00 dollar system. wether it be a basic carputer or intracate with the ultimate goal to access the internet, i have sprint service with unlimited minutes and data transfer, internet access etc. thank-you in advance for all replies.

you can get pcmcia cards that will hook into your cell phone providers network and then get a pcmcia to pci adaptor... not sure if it would work.. but it should

Even if you hook up all that hijinks21 says, you better check first if you have some good monitors with VGA inputs, because if you did like everybody that I've seen with 5 monitors on ther cars, all of them had RCA only connections to them, making them useless for internet surfing cause all the text is going to be screwy. just my 2cents.

simpliest way...get a datacable for your phone (if your phone is compatible) to a laptop or computer... No need to buy a pcmcia card...

*Note sprint/verizon doesn't like ppl to use their phone dataplan to surf with a PC... you might get your phone terminated because of it...

For dataplan sprint/verizon wants u go get is a pcmcia card called an Air Card or what ever they like to call it... Service is $99/mo (may be cheaper, haven't check in a long time) the card plugs in the laptop or PC that has a pcmcia slot. (epia MII)

Basically you're using your phone/air card as a modem to surf... Everything else, info is vastly available in this wonder forum.

if they are all composite.. you are gonna have a tough time reading text unless you really boost it up.. but that will make web browsing almost impossible

With sprint the easies way is the datacable as was mentioned in previous posts. Also get PCS connection manager software, it allows you to use your phone as a network adapter and not a dial-up modem, you get higher speeds this way.

As far as monitors, try before you decide to replace anything, I tried to connect a computer to monitor's RCA plugs and it was readable with minor tweaking.

It's free for verizon customers, all you need is a capable phone, and a cable.

Its NOT free, according to that thread you are using your minutes. With sprint the guy has unlimited data, so its going to be free all the way. Even if he did not have unlimited data, if he had vision pack internet through a datacable would be free. Sprint RULES!!!!!

I agree. A data cable and a sprint phone with vision is the best. Your chances of getting your service terminated is very very slim. I really don't think anyone at sprint cares. I know some people that work in a sprint call center and they didn't think that anyone cares.

Yes, sprint has the unlimited all day, any day data usage free for PCS Vision plan... I think it's an additional $10.

Verizon... A different story... dataplan is included in all plans because of the GET IT NOW phones... But it WILL use regular minutes... So it is unlimited during nites and weekends... I used it all the time...(have Kyocera 7135 palmfone + USB datacable...browsing the carputer @ 144kbp)

Verizon also have a $50 dataplan that you can buy that gives unlimited data usage all day any day...(that's on top of your regular calling plan) That plans is actually for the blackberry...but you can put it on others phone that has dataplan...

I DO envy Sprints users with their better phone selections and their unlimited all day any day data usage...

I think if you won't abuse your free dataplan... they would care at all... but if you do it too regularily that someone notices it and cares... byebye account.

The only way anyone is going to notice is if they either pulled up your individual account (a customer service rep when you called) or if they had software to specifically scan for large amounts of datatransfer. Even if someone did notice it is doubtful that they could rationalize closing your account (not a bad way of getting out of a contract ). It says in the plan details that you get unlimited internet access.... There is no way of them knowing if you are using that on your computer or phone.

Sprint vision is $15. Here are the plan details:
SMS Text Messaging – send or receive up to 100 text messages a month (requires an SMS-enabled Sprint PCS Phone)
• Unlimited Sprint PCS Vision Access includes:
• Unlimited email and instant messaging from America Online® and Yahoo!®
Unlimited Web access
• Unlimited Picture MailSM – take, upload and send an unlimited number of pictures
• Sprint PCS Business ConnectionSM Personal Edition. Unlimited access to your Microsoft® Outlook® or Lotus® Notes company email, calendar, business directory and personal contacts in real time on select Sprint PCS Phones

i have the biggest package sprint offers, all the bonuses 2000 anytime unlimited night and weekend starting at 7 and unlimited data transfer,(browsing), so i would use this feature to browse. i guess i could get a laptop and plug into my monitors. i understand the text visibility issue using the composite inputs but they are high resolution monitors escpecialy the head unit avhp7500dvd. i just think that jury rigging a laptop isn't the best way. what we be a straightforward "built in" system that would let me do the same?

I use the DataChute from Antec. It allows me to use any pcmcia card in my car pc. Plugs into a pci slot. Adapter is the same size as a floppy drive. Accepts two pcmcia cards. Getting ready to actually order the pcmcia modem card. Haven't decided on sprint or verizon. Here in Ohio they are both $80 month for unlimited data access.
