Motorola V325i
I am using Moto v325i with no problems for net access. I have also downloaded the verizon compression software, "Fourelle Venturi". Do any of you guys know if there is an extra charge from Verizon for using this software?
Software info/Download:
http://support.vzw.com/how_to_use/vzaccess_venturi.html
Also, why is phone to cable access twice as fast as bluetooth access?

As long as it doesn't say anything about extra charges in the small print... you should be ok...

Because Bluetooth can only communicate with the computer at 1/2 the speed of a cable... Stuff communicates at the slowest speed connected...
That's why when you put a USB 2.0 device into a USB 1.1 port it only goes at 11mbps...

You can also get free WAP on your verizon cell phone. It only uses minutes. This is done by changing the proxy from verizon server to google server. Ive been using this for 6 months and have not been charged for any web access.
1. Open your phone. Press #0SETUP* or #073887* -- QUICKLY -- If you pause while typing #0SETUP* in, it may not work. Also note that thats a ZERO [0] not an OH [O]
2. "Enter Security Code:" should be on the screen - type 000000 which is SIX [6] ZERO's [000000] and then Pres the right soft-key which is the top-right button, closest to the screen.
3. Web sessions should be the first item in the list, and should be highlighted. Press the right soft-key for Select
4. Press down to highlight [New Entry] and then press the right soft-key for Select
5. Here we will setup the new web session to in essence give us FREE WAP. Name should be highlighted. Simply start typing a name and it will take you to another screen to input text. This is not that important, and you can name the web session anything. For this application, we named our web session Google. After you're done naming your web session, press the left soft-key for OK
6. Homepage should be highlighted. If it is, Press the down key 3 times or simply scroll until you highlight Gateway IP 1:. Here we will put the IP address of Google, which will serve as our proxy. I believe that simply typing in google.com for the "Gateway" will work as well... but the following is how free wap is usually described.
7. To enter the IP address, simply start typing by Pressing the 6 key which will take you to a text input screen with a 6 on the screen at the far left. This is the first number of our IP address. Press 4 then press the right arrow key so that the cursor is after the first period. The screen should now read 64 .__| .___ .___
8. Now we need to enter the rest of the numbers. Type 233 and pause then Type 167 and pause then Type 99 and that should be the end. Your screen should now read 64 .233 .167 . 99| and if it does, Press the right soft-key for OK
9. Press the down key twice or until Port 1: is highlighted. Press 8 as thats the first number for the port and will get you into the text editor. Then press 0 which should make it say 80 on the screen, and if it does, Press the right soft-key for OK. The other ports listed below Port 1: can be left as their default.
10. And now we're done! Press the right soft-key for Done and the screen should say Stored: Google
11. You should be taken back to the list of Web Sessions. Highlight Google then Press the center button (in the middle of the up/down/left/right keys) and it should begin your web session with Google.
12. AND VOILA! You now have FREE WAP by using Google as a proxy. You should start out at the google web page, and you should be able to steer away to another page by using your phones menu.

Thanks for the info about google! I have installed and it is working great. But when I click on "web" or "Moble web" in the google menu, I get no response. Also, when I do select those options, the left button changes from "select" to "pick." Anyone have any suggestions?

Those are the search filters, you pick which one you want to use then type your search criteria into the google search bar. So lets say you want to go to msn.com, Type in 'msn.com' then select the web or mobile web option. Hit search and you will see all the msn web page links.

I have not been able to find any good apps that run on verizon phones, the software on verizon is a proprietary system called BREW. Most other carriers are written in JAVA making more apps available. Anyone know of any good BREW apps because I cannot find any

what about the moto q or Windows mobile smartphones, i tried it, but the "acces portion" did not work, there is a connections menu in the settings that allows for proxies and WAp, but I'm not sure if it is using min. or data.

Samsung SCH-A950
This one seems to work fine. Had to enable 1xDUN using SamsungPSTLite.
Cannot get ##########@vzw3g.com/vzw to work but qnc/qnc does work and the Initialization string listed in the first post has to be done.
I get an IP/Gateway/DNS when connected, however, cannot ping the DNS servers or anything out on the net in fact (the Gateway replies just fine). Anyone had this same issue?

Just got off the phone
...with a Verizon tech and he mentioned that they no longer support the QNC connections without a data plan attached to the account. And to attach a data service to my account would be 59 bucks a month. Now is he blowing smoke?
He did mention that "they caught on to people using this for free internet without a data plan" and they cracked down.

Seeing as how they dropped Q2N, does anyone thing that would constitute a way to get out of a verizon contract without paying the early termination fee?
I used q2n for years, stopped for the last year or so, and went to use it the other day only to find its gone. I loved that 14.4 connection and am really kind of unhappy its gone.

Who's free wireless internet still works?
Does this work anymore?
I have a V710 still and wondering if the cable will still work. I haven't bought anything yet.
I friend told me about there is a way to connect via verizon today So I did research and found this thread.
Thanks for looking,
Blake

on my verizon razr qnc/qnc worked find yesterday at 120k. Not sure if there is a extra charge just tried it for the first time and I am going to wait for my bill to see if there is one.
I just use a 1 dollar retractable usb cord that I got at a dollar store. And I got the drivers from afterdawn.com forum. The future dial driver didn't work for me.

I was trying to set up connection today and I'm failing user name/password check. Did they change something?
I use to be able to connect this way a while back, but not now.
