I got my hands on an LG VX8000 which is 1xEVDO capable. I haven't been able to find a cable for it yet (haven't even searched) but I'm hoping it'll stick in 1xEVDO mode for a connection. Anyone else have one of these and tried?
Thanks,
Daniel

Congrats on the new phone.
As far as I know, EVDO service is only available in certain areas. You might want to check it out by calling Verizon to see whether it's available where you live.

I have EVDO service. Infact, I have their Mobile Media service (soon to get a facelift and be called VCast) where you can stream news on your phone, etc. It's not worth the $15/month they charge, but if I can get hi-speed internet out of it, it's well worth it. Also, they sent me a notice that they're turning on EVDO in 30 more cities in the next couple months.

I am thinking about switching my wife and I from cingular. 2 V710's free after rebates. 1 Year contract. Rebate can be sent in 180 days after purchase.
Thanks for the info!

- The bluetooth on the V710's are crippled, which is why verizon is getting sued.
- V710's are CDMA... they wont work on Cingular. And the V710 is sucky, considering the E815 (its replacement) is coming out soon.
- You better hurry and get Cingular ASAP, their plans are changing very soon (for the worse).
- Amazon.com seems to have the best deals around on new phones with 1 year contracts.
- Use www.phonescoop.com to find a phone that meets your needs.
- If you are going the Cingular route, find a phone that supports EDGE data speeds.
Umm... yup.

Why are some of you still using a cable to connect the V710? DUN is one of the profiles that haven't been disabled. I connect the exact same way moahdib does and it works great. #777, yournumber@vzw3g.com/vzw.
As for the crippled bluetooth, I guess it does bother me a little bit, but most if not all of the functions I wanted are available using a TF card:
-transferring pictures V710<-->computer
-transferring videos V710<-->computer
-transferring mp3s V710<-->computer (using transferred mp3s as ringtones)
-and i also get 128mb of storage instead of the onboard 10, which is enough to fit a full length movie converted to the phone's resolution on 3gp format:

sorry off topic ^_^

Well, it's only really free on Nights/Weekends. The rest of the time, it takes away from your allotted anytime minutes. The service is included at no additional charge to Verizon Wireless customers with an America's Choices National Plan $39.99/month or more. It is not included with any of the Local or Singlerate plans.
All of their current phones work with the service. ALl you would need to get would be a USB data cable for your phone, or a bluetooth adapter if you get the Motorola V710. Good luck!
Peace,
Rafster

Woohoo! I just got this working with my LG VX3200 at 115kb/s with this cable.
Setting up the connection was a bit tricky, I had to configure it as a generic 56000bps modem, but it works at 115kb/s.
It's awesome to know that I'll be able to use this when I finish my car pc.

The transflash card is not intended for repeated removal and insertion. That's why bluetooth being disabled is an issue. The TF card is a fragile tiny little chip and the mechanism in the phone will break repeatedly. I went through a number of v710s before giving up on it.
