Ok guys, I need a hand.
I bought a data cable for the LG7000 (pretty sure it's a FutureDial cable) bought it [http://store.yahoo.com/cellphoneshop/usbdacaforlg6.html/]here[/url]. Then I downloaded the futuredial drivers. My computer will not recognize the phone when I connect it to the computer. I tired using verizon dialer, and it says it can't find a phone, and tells me maybe I should install drivers.
Am I missing something here?

I've been looking into switching from Sprint to Verizon to take advantage of EVDO and Bluetooth with the E815 phone coming out. I've come across some pretty bad news.
1) The NA-MOU plans are no longer offered. In other words, if you don't already have a Minutes of Use plan, you're SOL and you will be charged for data usage or need to pay for the $49/mo plan. It appears the new America's Choice plans are NOT Minutes of Use plans. If you have an old NA-MOU plan, it looks like you're ok for now.
2) If you upgrade your phone to one using EVDO, your Minutes of Use plan goes away (for data usage) and you're automatically charged by data usage which, with EVDO speeds, could rack up bills fast.
I think the days of pay-by-the-minute internet at Verizon are coming to an end. This is very unfortunate. Anyway, here's a couple of links to check out what I came across.

Bottom line, if you're planning on upgrading your phone, service or switching to Verizon, know the facts BEFORE you do it. All in all, I may just stay with Sprint now, even though they have crappy Bluetooth offerings.

It's free, just uses airtime, so you're ok on nights and weekends. Works awesome, I get 110-125K and the real download speeds test at 50-60K

I did all if your steps, and i do get it to connect at 115K....The problem is that i can't browse though!....When i open up IE, it does nothing. I click on status and it says connected. What else do i need to do?..Do i need to check Data In Always on my cell, and or do i need to mess with anything in IE on my laptop? it is an LG VX6000......Thanks!

What type of phone are you using?
Otherwise the Verizon Dialer utility works well, more information found here: http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/m...cess/index.jsp
Future Dial software is NOT needed to connect to the internet! Don't waste your money.
Also look for a cable that will charge your phone and dial to the internet at the same time, this way you phone will stay charged off of the USB port ( example here).

Speed issues
I've successfully set up a Samsung SCH-A670 for access on a PowerBook under OS 10.3
However, my connection speeds seem low--or at least, I think so. One bandwidth tester clocks me around 77 kilobits per second--that's kiloBITS, kps, not kilobytes, Kps, so not quite 10 Kilobytes/sec. I'm connecting using #777.
Any tips? Phone reconfiguration?

Vanderdecker - That's what you'll get. You're using a Non-EVDO phone, so you can only utilize Quick2Net, which is a 14.4kbps connection. If you want faster you need to get an EVDO phone and be in an EVDO service area.

You might not have it configured to use the faster 'NationalAccess' connection. You may only be connecting to the Quick2Net setup, which IS limited to 14.4k.
What are your connection settings, including user/password? (Go ahead and omit your phone number for that, just put #'s)
Edit: Sorry, you're right, it can do faster, I forgot that 1x phones can still use NationalAccess (which I did on my LG before I got my E815)

The usual: 1x showing on the phone's display.
Dialup settings:
account name: ##########@vzw3g.com
pw: vzw
tel#: #777
testing at bandwithdplace.com, though other test sites have echoed the results.

Hm..yeah..that's the same settings I used, but I got around 100kbps. (Pre-evdo phone) Maybe the infrastructure in your area is 'older'? Don't know. My wife has a 670, but we never tried doing data dial-up. If I can find her data cable I guess I can give it a shot and see what I get.

I had been wondering if there was some setting in the phone itself that might need fiddling.

That's cool selmerguy, but if you really want them to have a good 'shat' and you're in an EVDO market get the $15/mo VCAST package. I get in the 700+ kbps range in the Boston area. This thing smokes. I can't believe cell phones are nearly as fast as DSL was not too long ago.
