haha. I'm not sure what your setup uses. I remember threads going back a ways when EVDO first came out that stated you had to be on a grandgathered NAMOU plan to use minutes. Otherwise they were charging data rates. I went straight to VCAST, which is $15/mo unlimited, so I'm not sure what the results will be with your setup. Better keep the usage light this month just in case

Well I just did the file sharing hack ( change e2 to e3 on seam 2742) and it worked great however now my phone wont act as a modem anymore. Also I installed mpt on my carpc. Any ideas on what the problem with the dialup is?

@selmerguy: seems like you use a motorola, try ##342587 (##DIALUP). The phone should say: "Dial up networking enabled".

If I remember correctly inetron.com has a list of flags you can enable/disable and dial up networking is one if them. Unfortunately, inetron's website is currently down. Perhaps you could check out that website later?

Hate to bring up an old post.. I see that this can be done on a E-815 phone. I was wondering if this still works? And is the ######## Ect. Info still what you need to get this thing going? Thanks

Mine still works, You dont need to hack your phone. Just enable dialup by dialing ##dialup on your phone. Then set it up through bluetooth or cdma.

well, just to let everyone know, if it hasn't been mentioned yet

Verizon changed their plans recently, about a month ago, and unless you have the $60/month data plan, using your EVDO phone as a modem will either

a. give you "invalid username/password" error (i think thats the error) when you try dialing up

or, if that doesn't get you

b. you will be charged per kilobyte, which...adds up in a heartbeat.

so unless you have the $60/month plan, i wouldn't recommend using your phone as a modem anymore,

my e815 worked as a modem for the longest time, before i even had my carputer setup, and i didn't even need it, but now, it gives me the error when dialing in.

Razr EVDO Crippling

Hi guys, my question is this:

I'm thinking about upgrading from my 1XRTT capable vx6000 to a brand new EV-DO capable Razr from Verizon.

My only concern is that I don't want to get charged for EVDO service (unless I can get it with a $15 Vcast plan, which there's no definitive answer on) so I'd probably like to just continue using my 1XRTT plan that uses my minutes.

My question is: Can I disable EVDO on the Razr so I can continue using 1XRTT using my minutes as I do now? I don't want to get into an EVDO area and suddenly be forced to go broadband at like ridiculous rates. Thoughts?

Also, is it posible to keep my old phone active so I can use it as a modem? basically ties to my sme plan? just a thought cause then I could leave it in the car as a permanent modem, thanks guys

Update

Whew, ok.. I jut read about 1,000 pages of forums over at Howardforums and I think I found my answers. Yes, you can indeed disable evdo on the Razr.. as far as adding the second phone, not as much info, but I thin perhaps adding it as a second line for $10 a month would work? still looking
