Verizon Wireless cuts WiFi fees (59.99/mth)

Verizon Wireless cuts WiFi fees
Drops price of high-speed wireless by 25 percent to $59.99 a month; promotion runs through year end.
August 29, 2005: 9:06 AM EDT

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Verizon Wireless, the nation's No. 2 mobile phone service, said Monday it cut the price of high-speed wireless service for laptop computer users by 25 percent in a promotion aimed at winning more customers.

Verizon Wireless, a venture of Verizon Communications (Research) and Vodafone, said it would offer a promotional price of $59.99 a month through year end. It had been charging $79.99 a month for the service, which delivers the Internet to laptops at speeds comparable to some home computers.

doesn't the tmobile one only work in tmobile hot spots (like Starbucks). I was under the impression that verizon wireless one works almost everywhere.

I have T-Mobile's card and it's slow. I think I'll cancel that and go with this. Hopefully Verizon’s price cut will remain permanent.

It's not Wifi - it's cellular EVDO service and only where it's available which is in a few markets (30 last time I heard).

Unfortunetly I can't even get Verizon service here so I stick with Cingular which covers a larger area. Not as fast, but it's got more coverage so there is the trade-off.

This deal requires a 2 year commitment. While to some that is not a problem, to others it is a major deal.

I wish the V600 did EDGE, so I could use the T-Mobile service. The EDGE is different then GPRS. GPRS is slow, EDGE is not. Edge is similar to what they call ISDN2.

I have the V551 on Cingular and EDGE is gnice. It is not quite as fast as ISDN2 because of the EDGE class of the phone and the bluetooth link, but with my Sony GC82 card and upgraded firmware, I get around 150-180k throughput. Still not blazing fast, but much faster than dialup. And it's just about everywhere I have traveled across the country.

two years... that's a real drawback.... technology changes A LOT in two years...... even though verizon is the best imho... I don't think I would commit to two years....

Its not WiFi
WiFi implies 802.11
Verizon uses EVDO
