Wifi internet

Is there software that tells you whether the wifi AP has an active internet connection. I have connected to a few open networks but it does not allow you to access the internet through some them.

Sure, it's called ping. Just run "ping yahoo.com" or your system of choice and you will know if you have an active connection. You can setup a quick shortcut if you are on windows that will execute the command. Of course, since these are obviously open networks which you are given permission to use, you could always just ask the admin

If you don't understand what I mean, then I suggest you keep yourself out of trouble and out of other people's networks. I don't mean to sound condescending, but you are just asking for trouble poking around in unknown networks with such a limited understanding of network technology.
